Jim Harbaugh’s Message to Players After Chargers’ 0-5 Start to the Season
The Los Angeles Chargers have lost their first five games of the season for the first time since 2003 when they finished 4-12.

Jim Harbaugh struggled to find words at the post-game press conference after the Los Angeles Chargers fell to 0-5 on Sunday. The Chargers turned the ball over three times, including a fumble and an interception from quarterback Justin Herbert.
The Chargers defense also forced a couple of fumbles but allowed the Denver Broncos to score 23 points. It was a must-win game for the Bolts. Next week they have the near-impossible task of defeating the 4-0 Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
Reporters asked coach Harbaugh what message he will give to his players after a disastrous start to the year. He struggled to find words.
Yeah, I don’t know what that message is…. [Just] play their hearts out… That’s the only way… that’s the best way… And that’s—yeah.

The Los Angeles Chargers have a tough long season ahead. Fans believe that Jim Harbaugh’s reaction and Herbert’s struggles point to disastrous season ahead.
Per Pro-Football-Reference: no NFL team has ever played postseason football after starting the season 0-5. Besides facing the Chiefs twice, they play the Rams, Ravens, Patriots, Texans, and Denver on the final day of the season.
CBS Sports analyst blames Jim Harbaugh for the defeat
The Chargers appointed Harbaugh in 2024. Over the next two years, he led them to two straight playoff appearances. It was the bare minimum for the 2026 season, but after losing to a divisional rival, even that goal seems like a pipe dream.

CBS Sports analyst Pete Prisco blamed Harbaugh for the loss. Prisco argued that Harbaugh played passive football at the death when he should have attacked the Broncos’ secondary with the kitchen sink. His strategy backfired when they turned the ball over.
The reason [the Chargers] didn’t win the game [is] because Jim Harbaugh is an idiot… Jim Harbaugh knows 50 times more about football than I do, 50 thousand times. He’s won national championships [with Michigan], played in the Super Bowl [with 49ers], but what in the hell are you doing?
Pete Prisco said during the CBS Sports post-game show.
The Chargers led by seven points in the third quarter. Herbert connected with Hayden Rucci for a score and four minutes later set up Kimani Vidal for a running score following a Broncos fumble.
Broncos’ kicker Wil Lutz missed a field goal, but on their next drive Bo Nix threw a touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton. The Broncos kept the pressure on when Zach Allen forced a fumble from Herbert.
Lutz kicked another field goal, and on the following drive, Herbert threw an interception to Brandon Jones. That essentially killed any hopes of clinching a first-game win.
From that point on… the game was over. The Chargers had no chance. So, if you wanna blame somebody for the loss… it wasn’t the bad offense, it wasn’t the injuries, it was Jim Harbaugh.
Prisco continued

Justin Herbert has another stinker at quarterback
Harbaugh appointed Mike McDaniel to unlock Herbert’s full potential, but the Pro Bowler has been in a downward spiral since day one.
In five starts, Herbert has thrown 85 completions on 143 attempts (a career low of 59.4%), 937 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. For comparison, Herbert had just 3 interceptions in Harbaugh’s first year.

Calls have already mounted for the Chargers to replace McDaniel and let Harbaugh take over play-calling. However, Harbaugh made it very clear last week that McDaniel’s going nowhere. Regardless, the head coach needs to make some adjustments or risk going 0-6 or worse.
