John Cena is set to make his next WWE appearance this Saturday at Backlash. ‘The Cenation Leader’ took to X to confirm his presence at the show. Cena noted that he’ll be there to break some history-making news for which he was planning and making efforts for months. He couldn’t promise it being perfect but added that it’d change the WWE experience for both its superstars and the fans.
As soon as he let the cat out of his bag, the netizens started speculating on it as usual. Some believe he might officially announce the host city of WrestleMania 44, which is mere guessing. If one digs one of Cena’s posts from a couple of weeks ago, he teased something epic for Backlash on his 49th birthday.
It’s official! I’m headed to #WWEBacklash! After months of planning and effort, I am SO excited to break some history-making news! I can’t promise it’ll be perfect but I can promise it will change the WWE experience for Superstars and fans!

‘The Cenation Leader’ gave it away by revealing that he promised the fans about delivering on Club WWE. For the unversed, WWE had already introduced the concept to its audience by writing about it in detail on its official website. The Club WWE is the ultimate insider membership program that the company has designed to reward its passionate fanbase through exclusive access and members-only benefits.
It’s based on an annual subscription model, as per the company website. That begs the question whether John Cena is just pulling up to Backlash to formally elaborate on it. If that’s truly it, that would be deemed a major letdown, as that could’ve been an e-mail too. And that’s why the fans are hoping for more.
It would be interesting to see if there’s a superstar faceoff on the cards for Cena or not. He had it while serving as the host for this year’s WrestleMania, where he was involved in a segment featuring Danhausen, The Miz, and Kit Wilson. Will anyone else get a crack at ‘Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect’ this weekend? It remains to be seen.
With in-ring career behind him, how is John Cena still involved with WWE?
Back in March, John Cena revealed that he had figured out how he could still contribute to WWE. He spilled the beans on it during a fan expo and also said that he’d be more integrated into the system should everyone sign off on what he was planning. It’s not clear if the announcement he’s about to make at Backlash is correlated to it or not.

Having put his in-ring career in the rearview mirror, the 49-year-old will stay associated with WWE as its ambassador. He revealed in December that he signed a new five-year deal with WWE and would want to be a contributing part of its family for as long as he can. Moreover, the fans should expect the 17-time world champion to continue making sporadic TV appearances for WWE every now and then.
‘The Franchise Player’ remained active as a wrestler for the majority of 2025 as part of his WWE farewell tour. While there would always be a “what could’ve been” with the way his heel turn was followed up, he had no complaints about the run whatsoever. John Cena didn’t bash either The Rock or Travis Scott for abandoning the storyline that they dipped their toes into.
He has fixated on how he could make the best out of the inventory at his disposal. Once Rock and Scott dropped out, Cena carried himself as a solo act and remained an on-screen villain for months until reverting back to being a babyface at SummerSlam, at which he lost the WWE title to Cody Rhodes.
The Peacemaker star also got to wrestle AJ Styles one last time at Crown Jewel, and it ended up being the only match that Cena has watched back from his entire retirement tour. John Cena had his wrestling swansong in December when he tapped out to Gunther for the first time in over 20 years.
