LeBron James’ Former Teammate Shuts Down Ring-Chasing Allegations: “Everybody Chases Rings”
LeBron James has openly declared that he is hoping to win championships with the Philadelphia 76ers.

After LeBron James signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, the most common critique was that he joined another superteam in order to chase rings to increase his collection compared to other all-time greats.
Players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are always compared to him, and both have more championships than he does. The King has been to more NBA Finals, but his critics believe he needs Larry O’Brien trophies to be in the discussion with the two guards in the greatest of all-time debate.
James has amassed a lot of statistical records, many of which are likely to never be broken. The growing consensus is that LeBron James has done more with less, compared to the favorable situations both ‘His Airness’ and the late ‘Mamba’ enjoyed.
But to counter that, critics have added this new narrative that joining superteams to chase rings is not the same as building towards titles. Both Bryant and Jordan won with the teams that drafted them.
A lot of people call it ring chasing. Everybody chases rings. If you didn’t think Kobe and Jordan were ring chasers too, you’re crazy. Everybody wants a ring. I’ll chase a ring right now.
This was Chris Bosh, who was instrumental in helping LeBron James win his first two championships. The former Toronto Raptors great was basically echoing what Shaquille O’Neal and a few other former players have been saying, and that ring-chasing is perfectly fine.
Chris Bosh on LeBron's decision: "Philly was a pretty good choice too. A lot of people call it ring chasing. Everybody chases rings. If you didn't think Kobe and Jordan were ring chasers too, you're crazy. Everybody wants a ring. I'll chase a ring right now." pic.twitter.com/3I52W77l76

Bosh believes that every player comes into the NBA with the view of becoming a great. A major part of that goal is to win championships. That is why it is natural to join an ideal situation that can help them win.
LeBron James’ agent calls out critics using ring-chasing narrative
While Chris Bosh made it clear about ring-chasing in the most elegant way possible, without taking shots at LeBron James’ critics, the latter’s agent was not so subtle.
If you are punishing him or critiquing him for wanting to be competitive and having a real chance of winning, then that actually says a lot about you. Because what else are you supposed to do, right? The man is playing on a minimum contract. He wants to win.
Rich Paul said on the Game Over podcast
The Klutch Sports CEO believes that those naysayers have been hypocritical about anything his No. 1 client does. When LeBron James picked up his $53 million player option while with the Los Angeles Lakers, they were criticizing him.
Rich Paul says if you criticize LeBron for ring chasing after joining the 76ers, it says more about you:

Now, when he has taken a pay cut and left the team to join somewhere else, they are bringing up this ring-chasing narrative just to undermine the four-time league MVP. Rich Paul believes that these narratives show the real character of those creating them.
Such an effort shows whether those critics are actually objectively opining on the game, or whether they are saying anything to show their disdain towards the Akron native.
LeBron James and the 76ers are not guaranteed to fight for championships
During his segment, Rich Paul mentioned that no matter what narratives are created, the biggest underlying fact is that there is no guarantee that just joining the Philadelphia 76ers will help LeBron James win a championship.

What he means is that a lot of things have to go right just for them to be in a position to fight for a championship. The team is essentially retooled, with Jaylen Brown also joining the fray.
That means chemistry between them will need to be built off the court before they set foot on one. Then, the team’s schemes have to help bring out the best in each other.
Last but not least, everyone has to stay healthy. If any one piece struggles, their championship hopes will take a severe dent. Therefore, it is not a foregone conclusion that LeBron James joining the Sixers makes them title favorites. That is why this ring-chasing narrative does not hold water.
