Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is still the top vote-getter for the All-Star 2022-23 season. In the third fan return of the All-Star voting, James and Giannis Antetokounmpo lead their respective conferences. Giannis moved ahead of Kevin Durant, who led the All-Star total voting till 2nd fan returned right behind LeBron.
Fans’ vote accounts for 50 percent of the votes that decide the All-Star starter. NBA players and the multiple media panel account also account for 25 percent each for voting. In total, James received a total of 6,506,682 votes in the third fan voting returns. Giannis is placed in second place with 5,970,196 fan votes. Kevin Durant, who led and was ahead of the Greek Freak, slid to the 3rd place with 5,838,182 votes. Moreover, there is a strong chance that Durant wouldn’t be participating in the All-Star game.
The player who gets the most votes in each conference would be declared as the captain of their respective conference. They would then choose players from the All-Stars list and build their own team to face. The fans voting ends on Saturday, Jan 26. On the same day, the full list of starters will be declared. The final roster for the All-Star game will be decided by the 50-25-25 percentage share between fans, media, and players. The final stage of the voting helps the league decide the outcome of the close race between players.
A fight of MVPs in the All-Star voting in the Eastern Conference
Anthony Davis is currently the 3rd highest vote-getter in the Western Conference behind LeBron and Nikola Jokic. Despite being out for a month from the action, Davis still remains one of the fans’ favorites. He was playing at an all-time level for the Lakers before injuring his foot. Another player who has largely received more love from the fans is Zion Williamson. He has been getting more numbers as time passes by. Zion is out with a hamstring injury.
The Eastern Conference has been the tough conference this year, and multiple players from the Conference have emerged as the best players in the league. Boston and Milwaukee don’t just have the best teams in the league but also two of the best players in the league. Apart from Giannis, Jayson Tatum and Joel Embiid are only 200,000 apart from each other. Tatum is averaging 31.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for the first-place Boston Celtics. Embiid’s 33.6 points per game for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Dončić and Stephen Curry are well ahead of Ja Morant for the starting backcourt in the Western Conference. It’s not even a close race in the Eastern Conference, as Kyrie Irving and Donovan Mitchell easily lead for the spots. However, the media and player vote could still play a part in each of these, as players look forward to making their mark in the league.
