LeBron James-led Lakers Better Without Luka Doncic, Claims Skip Bayless
Many critics have started to change their opinion on LeBron James after his performances in the first two games of this postseason.

- Skip Bayless claims the Lakers perform better without Luka Doncic, citing LeBron James' effectiveness on both ends of the floor.
- Critics argue that LeBron's leadership fosters accountability among teammates, contrasting with Doncic's style.
- Nick Wright defends LeBron, suggesting critics are shifting blame to avoid acknowledging their previous criticisms of him.
It has been a whirlwind of a season for LeBron James as he had to get accustomed to playing as a third option behind Los Angeles Lakers teammates Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
He had to adjust to the new role, where he had to wait in a corner most of the time, or hope his teammates would steal the ball or grab a quick rebound before being handed out in transition.
This led the King, arguably one of the two greatest players in NBA history, to just be an afterthought. In fact, many felt that the team was better off without James and were already discussing his next destination.
Their argument was that with Doncic and Reaves already established as the team’s primary scorers, LeBron James was needlessly occupying space both on the floor, as well as on the salary cap.
I just think they’re a little better basketball team on both ends of the floor without Luka… LeBron has far less ego than Luka does. Luka has to be the whole show, and obviously can be a defensive liability. But Luka is the most inefficient player in the league.
Skip Bayless said on Gil’s Arena
The longtime analyst pointed out how LeBron James, at least, is effective on both ends of the floor when compared to Luka Doncic. On top of that, the oldest player in the league can contribute in ways the Slovenian cannot.

Coming from someone who has made it a habit to criticize the 41-year-old, Skip Bayless believes that the Lakers are better off without Doncic, whose inefficiency and lack of effort on defense far outweigh his scoring.
LeBron James’ critics add to Skip Bayless’ opinion
Skip Bayless was not the only LeBron James critic during this episode of Gil’s Arena. Along with him were Kenyon Martin Sr. and Rashad McCants. When asked for his opinion, the former All-Star said this:

They’re taking on the Identity of LeBron… When the other guy is there, there’s no accountability for the other end of the floor.
Kenyon Martin Sr. said
Kenyon Martin Sr. elaborated his opinion by pointing out how the Los Angeles Lakers have gravitated towards their oldest teammate and absorbed everything he says or wants them to do.

Since he is leading by example, the league’s all-time scoring leader’s voice is not falling on deaf ears. Instead, his teammates are following his lead and playing to their best.
On the contrary, when Luka Doncic resorts to his antics or does not show effort on defense, the team responds accordingly. The former first-overall pick believes that their two playoff performances show where the differences lie.
Nick Wright claps back at LeBron James’ critics
While Skip Bayless, Kenyon Martin Sr., and Rashad McCants have seemingly been impressed by LeBron James, a certain Nick Wright wanted to remind the rest of the critics of their activities from this season.
I see today is going to be “Blame the Rockets!” day rather than maybe a little introspection from folks.
Nick Wright wrote on X
The FS1 analyst detailed how critics were on James’ case all season long, touching every possible angle to diminish the four-time league MVP.
I see today is going to be “Blame the Rockets!” day rather than maybe a little introspection from folks who at various times this year said with absolute and total conviction…

•LeBron’s contract is an albatross/Lakers should be desperate to move off him.
•The Lakers are…
Now, Wright believes that shifting the blame to the Houston Rockets and Kevin Durant is the only way out for those same critics. Walking back would undermine anything and everything they have said to date, which is why finding another one to point fingers at is easier.
Wright reminded those critics that it is they who have been selling low on LeBron James. The analyst believes that these performances so far have proved that if the team and the coach are aligned with him, they are a very good team.
