M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) play their home matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This famous stadium was established in 1969 and has a seating capacity of over 40,000.

The stadium is owned by the Government of Karnataka and was formerly known as the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium (KSCA) but was renamed after Mangalam Chinnaswamy, who was a lawyer from Mandya, founded the Mysore State Cricket Association, and a former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The first-ever international match the venue hosted was in 1974 and it continues to host regular matches across all the formats, including Women’s matches. It is known for being the first cricket stadium in the world to use solar panels to generate the electricity needed in the stadium.

Sachin Tendulkar has amassed 869 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in international cricket, while Pakistan’s Younis Khan registered 267, the highest individual score. Anil Kumble scalped the most wickets (16), while Nathan Lyon registered the best figures of 8/50.

Apart from international records, M. Chinnaswamy ground is famous for the highest IPL total. The home team put on 263 runs against Pune Warriors back in 2013.

The crowd witnessed one of the most exhilarating knocks of Chris Gayle, who smashed 175 runs from just 66 balls against Pune Warriors (the highest individual score in IPL history). At this venue, Brendon McCullum slammed the first century in IPL (158 off 73 balls) while representing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Virat Kohli is dominating here since 2008. He has collected 2346 runs, followed by AB de Villiers (1973).

The lowest total was recorded by Rajasthan Royals (41/1), but this was an abandoned match due to rain. But otherwise, RCB had registered the lowest total of 82 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008. On May 14, 2016, the crowd witnessed Virat Kohli-AB de Villiers show when they recorded the highest partnership (229) in the history of the cash-rich league, against Gujarat Lions.

Yuzvendra Chahal has bagged the most wickets (51) followed by Zaheer Khan’s 28. Samuel Badree had the best bowling figure 4/9 which he registered against Mumbai Indians in 2017.

Meanwhile, RCB under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis will kick start their campaign this year against Mumbai Indians on Sunday (April 2) in Bengaluru. Last year, they were fourth on the points table with eight wins and six defeats from 14 matches.
