The Detroit Lions made a statement to the NFC Conference with a striking win over a nearly perfect Seattle Seahawks on Monday. The Lions put an end to Seattle’s 3-0 start, handing them a 42-29 victory at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit.
Jared Goff, the starting quarterback for the Lions, recorded a perfect completion rate with 18 of 18 passes, two touchdowns, and even one receiving touchdown to his name. He set the league record for most passes without an incompletion. He perfected throws and led elite plays to set up a Madden-level stat to guide the Lions to their third win in the 2024 season.
Marcus Spears, speaking on The “Get Up” show hosted by Mike Greenberg, made some intriguing statements involving the Lions and Jared Goff. Spears claimed that Jared Goff has an elite arm, as he spearheaded some confident throws, including the 70-yard throw to Jameson Williams. He alluded that Goff has been insanely operating while the Lions have their run game on.
Spears also concluded that the Lions seem unbeatable, thanks to their scrimmage. He noted that the Lions are so physical with it, led by Goff, who is unbothered by any pressures.
Detroit Lions went to the NFC Championship game last year, triumphing over the longest post-season win drought in the NFL.
"When this team plays like this, I don't think anybody in the league can beat them." 😯

Earlier, HC Dan Campbell noted the loss in the NFC Championship is a high motivation for the season ahead of them. Spears claimed that apart from the few inconsistencies, the Lions might be a solid contender to reach the playoffs.
Jared Goff’s Seahawks performance brings out the flaw in passer ratings
When it comes to quarterback performances, few resemble the night Jared Goff had against the Seattle Seahawks. Goff achieved a perfect 18-of-18 passes for 292 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.
Despite Goff’s incredible performance, he didn’t finish with a perfect passer rating. His rating of 155.8 fell just short of the ideal 158.3. It is a blindfolded assumption that no incompletions and no interceptions should lead to a perfect rating.
However, the complex formula behind passer ratings doesn’t work like that. The rating system is as follows:
- Have a minimum completion percentage of 77.5%
- Average at least 12.5 yards per attempt
- Have zero interceptions
- And have a touchdown percentage of at least 11.875%
While Goff aced three out of the four requirements, his touchdown percentage of 11.1% fell just shy of the required 11.875%. ‘The Goff’ game brought the inefficacies of the passer rating standards to the limelight.
Even if Goff had thrown one incompletion, his rating wouldn’t have changed. His performance has highlighted that the passer rating doesn’t truly capture the on-field brilliance.
