Bahrain GP Qualifying Results: Max Verstappen takes pole position, Sebastian Vettel fails to make it past Q1

Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen finished on the pole position in the Bahrain GP qualifying round on Saturday. The Red Bull driver got the better of the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas who finished second and third respectively.
The Dutchman registered a timing of 1:28.997, 0.388 seconds quicker than Lewis Hamilton in the second sector. It is a great confidence booster for Verstappen who continued his fine form from the practice sessions in Bahrain. With his performance on Saturday, he has proven himself to be a serious contender for the world championship this season.
Sebastian Vettel has a disastrous start to his Aston Martin career
Sebastian Vettel who was making his Aston Martin debut in Saturday’s qualifying session failed to make it past the first qualifying session and could only manage to finish on the 18th spot. Charles Leclerc, Vettel’s former teammate at Ferrari lived up to his expectations, finishing on P4.
Carlos Sainz stole the show in Q2, registering the fastest time of all drivers. However, he could not repeat his heroics in the third session and finished on the eight place. Fernando Alonso who made his return to F1 after a two-year hiatus managed to finish on the ninth place. It was not a good outing for the Red Bull debutant, Sergio Perez as he was knocked out in the Q2 session, finishing 11th. Pierre Gasly was a surprise name in the top 5 spots, as the Alpha Tauri driver finished on the fifth place, and will be in the third row in the main race.
