Pat Murphy caused a massive stir among New York Yankees fans following a wild swipe at the team on Wednesday. ESPN broadcaster Michael Kay later sounded off on him on his radio show.

Wednesday night saw the Milwaukee Brewers clinch their first World Series title in franchise history. The National League side beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 and won the series with the same scoreline.

Murphy, who has been named the NL Manager of the Year in each of the last two seasons, was seen having a conversation with Jake Bauers, who caught the final out.

The first baseman had gifted the ball to his skipper. As he gets ready to test free agency, Murphy joked with him and ended up taking a major shot at the Yankees.

You’re going to be a rich f****er. Just remember when you’re on that horses**** Yankees team and you’re all playing for yourselves, just remember this is the way we used to do it.

Pat Murphy told Jake Bauers via Spectrum News

Bauers had a breakout year this season as he hit a career-high 26 home runs with a .266/.389/.484 slash line. As he becomes a free agent, he could earn a big contract.

One of the teams that could pursue him is the Yankees. The Bronx Bombers had another early exit from the playoffs as they got swept 3-0 in the American League Division Series (ALDS) by the Rays.

Murphy’s words, however, caused some stir on social media. Bauers was part of the Yankees team in 2023, which finished 82-80 and missed the playoffs.

While reacting to this on The Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio, the veteran broadcaster sounded off on Murphy and asked where this jealousy regarding them comes from.

Why is there a jealousy of the Yankees when the Yankees haven’t won since 2009? … Milwaukee beats Tampa Bay, and rather than say something bad about Tampa Bay, the manager finds a way to say something bad about the Yankees. Please talk me through it make me understand.

Michael Kay said on his show

There have been instances where players have taken shots at the New York side. Following their ALDS elimination, Rays star Junior Caminero trolled them with the “Da Yankees Lose“ (The Yankees Lose) chant popularized by David Ortiz.

Last year, it was Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who did this. He joined “Big Papi” during the FOX Sports broadcast to throw shade at them.

The Yankees, on their part, are referred to as “The Evil Empire,” given their huge history. With 27 titles, they are the most successful franchise in MLB history. However, they haven’t won the Fall Classic since 2009, leading many to make fun of them following their playoff exits over the years.

Former Yankees star recently made some eye-opening statements regarding the team

It seems there is some tension between the New York Yankees and one of their former players. In a recent interview, an ex-star made some eye-opening comments regarding the AL team.

On The New York Post’s The Show Podcast, hosted by Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman, former Yankees catcher Jorge Posada made an appearance. During this, the 4-time World Series winner dropped a surprising statement.

When asked by Sherman whether he would like to come back and be part of the team’s coaching staff, Posada claimed that he does not feel welcome by the team.

I don’t feel welcome when I go there. … I don’t feel like they want me there. So I don’t go.

Jorge Posada said on The Show podcast

These comments from him stunned the fans on social media. Posada is one of the most beloved figures in the team’s history and was part of the “Core 4” along with Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Andy Pettitte. His No.20 is also retired by the team.

Posada did have some disagreements with the team management in his final season in 2011. He spent most of his time as the designated hitter (DH) rather than playing in his primary position of catcher.

For now, the team is sticking with General Manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone. Cashman’s contract was recently extended, while Boone has been allowed to run down his contract, which will expire at the end of the 2027 season.
