Indeed, a very sad moment for all MLB fans. The time has come when we are going to miss the Cardinals’ legends Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina. We knew this day was coming and dreaded how fast time was flying by, as both had announced their retirement prior to the season.
While Yadier Molina spent all 19 years of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, Albert Pujols reunited with the Cardinals for a 1-year contract after playing with the Los Angeles Angels and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Both players are going to retire after an impeccable career. Molina ended his career with .214/.233/.302 thumping five home runs and 24 RBI in 78 games, while Pujols hit .270/.345/.550 with 24 home runs and 68 RBI in 109 games.
Pujols hit a total of 703 career home runs, adding his name into the 700-home run club. Pujols says goodbye to baseball while being a 11-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glover, six-time Silver Slugger, a Batting Title winner, NLCS MVP and three-time NL MVP. Molina ends his career while being two-time World Series champion, 10-time All-Star, nine-time Gold Glove winner, four-time Platinum Glove winner and a one-time Silver Slugger winner.
Twitter reacts to Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina’s career
The Philadelphia Phillies were very sure of their win against the Cardinals, it was as if the game was already won before they even went into the game. Bryce Harper said very clearly “We’re not losing,” but this also meant the careers of Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina, Cardinals’ season and the first-round wild-card series was also going to come to an end.
The Philadelphia Phillies finished third in their division and have now entered a National League Division Series showdown against the Atlanta Braves, all thanks to Bryce Harper and his incredible home run off the first pitch which led to a lead in the second inning. “It’s MVP-type stuff,” Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins said of Harper’s declaration. “Awesome”.
