The popularity of MMA has raised the standard of competition and the quality of the athletes. However, many have used the popularity of MMA to make inferior gimmicky fights for easy money. As such there have been MMA fights between a guy’s mother and his ex-girlfriend and ex-wife vs current girlfriend and so on. Now, a clip went viral on social media with the tagline of ‘Crackhead vs. Dealer.’

However, that was not the case. The fight was between Oleg “Mongol” Stanislav and Baretsky Perekhozhev at the Russia-based Epic Fighting Championship. Stanislav is a 47-year-old Russian MMA fighter with a 1-1 in featherweight. On the other hand, Baretsky is a Russian musician. Baretsky has a striking resemblance to Vincent D’Onofrio‘s character ‘Kingpin’ from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the fight, Perekhozhev was visibly bigger than Stanislav. However, Stanislav was a trained athlete, whereas Perekhozhev was morbidly ob*se. The musician tried to utilize his size to pressure forward, but Stanislav dropped him down twice. The second knockdown was with a beautiful one-two combination. After the knockdown, the referee stopped the fight as Perekhozhev could not get his wits on.

The gimmicky MMA fight between Oleg Stanislav and Baretsky Perekhozhev spread like wildfire on social media. It was mainly due to the appearance of both fighters, particularly Perekhozhev, who looked like ‘Kingpin’ from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Even though fans found the fight to be a mismatch, the entertainment factor made them think otherwise. However, such fights could downplay the credibility of the sport. Moreover, the future of gimmicky MMA fights is very bleak. The gimmicky boxing fights had high hopes but eventually fizzled out.
