Far Consulting and Epsilon Technologies conducted a study tracking MotoGP riders’ social media posts. Around 30,000 posts were made from 2022 January to November. And at the end of the season, the impact of these posts were analysed. The MotoGP series conjured up to 378 million impressions, out of which 150 million were generated due to the official accounts. It includes Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi and others.

The study focused on 128 profiles scattered across social media. This recognised the impression left by MotoGP on various platforms. MotoGP conducted a global survey last year, and Epsilon and Far Consulting crossed their data with the one acquired by MotoGP, Motorsports Network and Nielsen Sports. They had a sample of more than 100,000 fans. There was intense research done to ensure an accurate result.

The result revealed that Marc Marquez is the biggest MotoGp star on social media. His posts invited a larger audience compared to the others on the grid. Surprisingly enough this was maintained on all the platforms, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. This comes as a surprise because the Spaniard suffered from various injuries last season and missed 8 races out of 21.

The data obtained from Instagram alone in those 11 months, in 2022, accounted for 82.3 percent of interactions. That is more than 175 million. This is important because of the statistics. This shows the popularity of Marc Marquez in spite of Fabio Quartararo winning the 2021 world championship. After Quartararo, the third popular rider was Andrea Dovizioso. The 2022 world champion Francesco Bagnaia came seventh.

While Quartararo holds 17% of the interactions on social media Marquez holds 40%. The 10 posts with the most activity in MotoGP belonged to Marquez. The most notable interactions came after the Indonesian Grand Prix where he suffered a severe crash which caused him a double vision. The Spaniard’s posts that had the most number of interactions were related to the Indonesian Grand Prix.

Teams like Honda and Yamaha don’t do many promotions compared to Ducati and Aprilia. The riders Marquez and Quartararo post more content and promote their team. For the other teams, the official accounts usually post more content than the drivers according to this study. Ducati for example promotes themselves as a winning brand, they have that image thanks to the great results achieved by them. The Epsilon Technology and Far consulting will hold an online presentation and discuss the topic along with others on 16th February.
