Namibia beats Sri Lanka

Jan Frylinck’s 44-run knock helped Namibia score 163/7 in 20 overs. During Sri Lanka’s batting, he scalped two wickets, breaking Dasun Shanaka-led Lanka’s back to start their T20 World Cup in style on Sunday, October 16, at the GMHBA.

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first. Namibia lost quick wickets at first. However, the middle order’s contributions helped them stabilize the innings. Nicol Loftie-Eaton and Stephen Baard scored 20 and 26 runs, respectively. Later, Gerhard Erasmus scored 20 runs off 24 balls.

Frylinck and Johannes Jonathan Smit played the crucial knocks needed to score respectable. Frylinck scored 44 runs off 28 balls with four boundaries. He was dismissed in the last over when Danushka Gunathilaka ran him out.

Johannes Jonathan Smit then scored an unbeaten 31 runs in just 16 balls with two fours and two sixes at an impressive strike rate of 193.75, guiding his team to 163/7 in 20 overs.

Sri Lanka also lost their top-four batters pretty quickly. Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Shanaka scored 20 and 29 runs, respectively; the latter was the high-scorer for his team. These runs weren’t enough for the Lankans, and soon they were without any wickets by the end of the 19th over. In the end, Namibia bowled out Sri Lanka on 108 runs to win the match by 55 runs.

David Wiese, Bernard Scholtz, Ben Shikongo, and Frylinck scalped two wickets each, while Smit picked one wicket.
