2021 NASCAR Cup series champion Kyle Larson will race in 2024 Indy 500 on memorial weekend. He will become the fifth NASCAR driver to pull off double duty as the cup series hosts the iconic Coca-Cola 600. He will drive for the Arrow McLaren team, and Hendrickscars.com will be his primary sponsor. The event will also mark the IndyCar ownership debut of Rick Hendrick, HMS boss.

John Andretti, Tony Stewart, Robby Gordon, and Kurt Busch are the Cup drivers to ruin the tightest schedule in Motorsports, and if Larson can win any of these two races, he will mark history as none before has won at least one of two races on the same day. Busch was the last to do it in 2014, and he secured a P6 finish in Brickyard.

Cup veterans Kyle Busch, who has been dreaming about an Indy 500 for years, might have to wait one more year. He was reportedly in line to make a debut with McLaren in 2023, following his RCR, move,  but the plans were scrapped after the Indy outfit decided to go for drivers with open-wheel experience. Legacy M.C. owner, Jimmie Johnson, had reported interest in running both events in 2023, but there are no new updates on the JJ’s plans.

I’m super excited. Competing at the Indianapolis 500 is a dream of mine and something I’ve wanted to do for a very long time – since I was a child before I ever began competing in sprint cars. To do it with McLaren and Mr. Hendrick especially is a dream come true,” Kyle Larson said on the Indy opportunity.

I’m grateful for the opportunity and am really looking forward to it even though it’s still about a year-and-a-half away. I’m really looking forward to competing in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Charlotte (Motor Speedway) 600 and maybe even getting a win or two that day,” Larson added.

Rick Hendrick and McLaren Racing CEO Zack Brown open up about Kyle Larson’s entry

Rick Hendrick associated with McLaren so that his firm, driver, and Chevy are represented at the premier event in one of the best cars possible. On the other hand, McLaren Racing CEO Zack Brown is expecting big from HMS and Larson, who claims to be a complete driver, in the 2024 spectacle at Brickyard.

Having the opportunity to support Kyle, partner with an elite team like Arrow McLaren, and promote HendrickCars.com in one of the world’s great auto racing events is truly unique. All of us are competitors. Putting Kyle in top-level equipment and allowing ample time for him to prepare for such a difficult challenge was important,” Rick Hendrick said.

It’s going to be very, very special to field a Chevrolet in the Indy 500 as a car owner. A collaboration like this was what we needed to make it happen, and fortunately, the stars aligned. We’re 100% committed to doing it right and look forward to working with Zak (Brown, CEO, McLaren Racing) and his organization,” Rick Hendrick added.

Adding Kyle Larson with a HendrickCars.com partnership to the Indy 500 lineup in 2024 is exciting for our Arrow McLaren team as well as for race fans. He’s a complete driver, known for racing anything on wheels, so I’m looking forward to seeing what Kyle can do in an NTT INDYCAR SERIES car. It’s been great working with Rick Hendrick and (Hendrick Motorsports vice chairman) Jeff Gordon to pull this together, so a big thank you to them for what’s to come in May 2024,” Zack Brown said.
