Kyle Busch is going through one of the most challenging phases of his racing career at RCR. He hasn’t won a single race in over the years and is even struggling to match his teammate Austin Dillon, who is also having a mediocre run. With his Richard Childress Racing contract coming to an end many expect the veteran to quit the No:8 Chevy team.
On the latest episode of his podcast, Hall of Famer Dale Eranhardt Jr. has shared his thoughts on which team the veteran will join if he exits RCR. The veteran feels the two times champion is on his way to join Spire Motorsports. They are the fastest growing Chevy team and the only one to find consistency in the 2026 Chevy.
My guess if I had to predict what ends up happening, Kyle Busch ends up getting an opportunity that gets him back toward the front of the field…I just got a weird feeling he’s gonna end up at Spire for some reason. … They would probably absolutely take him. … I could see him getting over there.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said on his podcast.
In the same conversation later, Dale Earnhardt Jr. pointed out that Kyle Busch is not going to settle for mediocrity in NASCAR, as he is too good to end his career with midfield sides. But the time is running out for him to find the team that will earn him redemption, so the 2026 summer is his best shot at finding a solution.
I think that he ends up getting in a decent car before it’s all said and done. He’s not gonna drive cars that are underperforming for the rest of his career… Father Time is undefeated and all that stuff. But I believe it happens, and it could be next year. He’s not got a long-term deal at RCR. That’s the story moving forward and that’s what I believe happens in the summer.

Kyle Busch explains how RCR move ended his NASCAR villain era
On the racing side, the move to RCR has been a failure for Busch. But on the personal side it has been a massive success. Before the move, at Joe Gibbs Racing, he was seen as the biggest villain of the sport. The veteran cherished the era, as he had the opportunity to taunt the fans on and off the track.

When I was with M&M’s and Toyota and driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, I was public enemy number one. That was just sort of my persona. I leaned into it, I wore the black hat. I was winning all the time, so you could play with the fans. You could say stuff to them to kind of rile them up and be that villain, right?
Kyle Busch told Sean Hannity.

Once he moved to RCR, one of the most loved teams in the sport as well as ended his Toyota partnership to join Chevy, the fans started loving him. The future Hall of Famer didn’t waste anytime and took advantage of it as well. Unfortunately, he couldn’t reward the fans with race wins.
And then I moved over to Richard Childress Racing. I joined Team Chevy, and instantly there was kind of a switch, like a little bit of a flip of fans, of haters, that were like, ‘I’ll pull for Kyle now, he’s in a Chevy.’ And I was like, ‘OK, this is good, you know, I’ll take it.
Kyle Busch added.
With Busch gone NASCAR needed a new villain and it was Denny Hamlin who inherited the role. The No:11 driver played the role better and with his dominant runs the last few years, alongside close championship calls, he seems to be making those haters his fans faster than Busch ever could.
