Team Penske Racing’s two times Cup champion Joey Logano came into the first race of the Round of 12 of the playoffs with the hope winning the round opener like he did with the R-16 at Atlanta. But his desperate chase was short lived as the tweaks made on his car by the team didn’t serve its purpose and, on the contrary, needed up hurting him.

On the second stage of the race, the No:22 Team Penske crew on the pit-strop made some small changes to the cars and when Joey Logano tried hit the gas after re-entering the track, he felt the cars wasn’t fast enough. This left the former champion furious, and he ranted on the team radio to his crew about the pace.

How in the hell is this thing so f**king slow? God bless. I hit the gas and go nowhere.

Joey Logano said on team radio.

The veteran was lucky, he soon got a caution and was able re-adjust the car. But this forced them to change the initial strategy and that earned him P14 finish. Luckily there were few playoff driver who finished much worse than him and it resulted him securing a found points advantage to the cutline going into next weekend.

We went from a winning car to being wrecking loose like someone hit a light switch. I don’t know why or what, but we had something that we could win with early and then we were out of control loose and trying not to wreck. It beats me. I don’t understand it.

Joey Logano told NBC.

He is happy at least he was able to salvage some stage points in the race and was able to battle the issues to secure a top 15 finish. Logano is now looking forward to having a great day at Talladega but knows unlike last round this one won’t be easy.

At least we scored good stage points in the first stage but we got nothing the second stage, unfortunately. We battled back from that loose wheel and got back to 14th. We just have to go to Talladega and be solid again. It isn’t going to be a comfortable next two weeks, that’s for sure.

Joey Logano added.

The future Hall of Famer seems to be bit tensed about the last two race of the R-12 and is determined to maximize the results to continue his chase of the championship. It will be interesting to see how significant the incident will prove to be for the star driver.
