The 2024 NASCAR Cup season has been a nightmare to say the least for Richard Childress Racing’s Kyle Busch. His 20 season win streak is under threat, as he just has six more races left in the season to end the 52-race winless streak. He got the best opportunity last Sunday at Kansas, where he had the fastest car, but yet again luck played against him.

On the 235 lap of the race Kyle Busch, who was running upfront, spun out after getting bad air while trying to pass Chase Briscoe. The SHR driver who was about to get lapped by the RCR veteran didn’t give him enough space to the racer leader as he should, and it went on to cost the No:8 Chevy driver the race.

Running 10s trying to make up speed and cover the 1 car and make sure I could stay ahead of him. The 14 [Chase Briscoe] turned down the hill in order to get clean air from the guy in front of him. And so, I went to his outside and plugged a hole. I just — air. For some reason, felt nothing off the corner and hadn’t really had that like that the whole time.

Kyle Busch told NBC Sports.

The Chevy veteran is disappointed over his failure to reward the hard work of his RCR team with a win, despite him putting in the same level of effort as well. He admitted that he also got some blame to take for the incident, as him being in too big a hurry might have caused the race ruining spin.

Busting my butt and I hate it for my guys and everyone at RCR. They deserved to get the win today. We hung underneath the 1 car [Ross Chastain] there for 15 laps trying to pass him. Finally passed him and could get away from him a little bit and catch a lap car. We’d get backed up a little bit and the gap just kind of kept doing that. I guess I just got in too big a hurry.

Chase Briscoe explains reason for the Kyle Busch wreck

After the race, Kyle Busch fan Chase Briscoe talked to the media about what went wrong and how the whole chaos happened. He asserted that they didn’t even touch at the moment and pointed out that he had given the star driver enough space to overtook him. His words show it was just bad timing and luck for the duo.

I don’t know if we ever touched, I haven’t seen it still but these cars are so sensitive when you are off to the right. I couldn’t really run on the wall so I was trying to give him a car width and a couple inches and saw him get loose as soon as he got to my right rear. It didn’t feel like I was trying to do anything. I literally left him the top lane.

Chase Briscoe said.

The incident also proved to be costly for Briscoe who was already struggling on Sunday and was desperately trying to get something out of the day. It will be interesting to see how significant the incident will turn out to be with just six more races left this season.
