2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick found himself in a controversy involving Ross Chastain. The veteran declared on his SPEED podcast that the No:1 Chevy drivers’ future with Trackhouse seems is in question over poor performance recently. He is no longer the best driver at Justin Marks’ team, that is Shane van Gisbergen.

These comments did not sit well with the Florida born racer and called out the former champion on his media session ahead of the Darlington race. Harvick was impressed with the response, as he expects the Cup drivers to behave in front of the media like Chastain did and stand on their feet amidst controversies.

That’s exactly what he should say. Like he’s the driver; we’re the ones here just talking about the things that happen on a weekly basis. That’s a tough spot to be in from a driver standpoint, right? When your team is struggling and not getting the results.

Kevin Harvick said on his podcast.

Further talking about the point, Kevin Harvick asserted that Ross Chastain in in a situation where his cars are not good enough to reach results that he is truly capable of. But the veteran also doubled down on his comments insisting he is sitting on the podcast chair ready to talk about the bitter truth and he won’t stop doing that.

Look, there’s no doubt that Ross is capable of driving cars fast, and his stuff is not fast enough to reach his capability. But the one thing that I always try to do when I sit in this chair is always say the things that I’m not afraid to say to somebody if I were sitting right here with them.

Kevin Harvick explains how Ross Chastain can take advantage of the negative media attention

In the same conversation later, the veteran explained how the drivers can take advantage of the media buzz to make their standing clear just like he did throughout his career with RCR and SHR. He asserted that drivers should push things to a better direction when they get to speak to the media.

There’s a way to play the game through the media, to push situations into a better direction to put pressure on people, whether it’s your team or another driver, or stir the pot to mix the message.

Kevin Harvick said.

He highlighted that it is easy for drivers to push their narratives as they get to speak to the media every week. The wise driver would take advantage of the that and would make comments that push them in a positive direction even during negative streaks.

Whatever it is, you always have the capability from a media standpoint, when you’re in that position to have a microphone in front of your face every week, to be able to dictate things into a direction that are more positive for you.

Kevin Harvick added.

The comments from the veteran racer are on point and shows how Chastain needs to learn to play the off-track game as well to be a real NASCAR superstar. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star drivers in the coming days.
