“A guy that probably doesn’t get talked about enough,” Chase Elliott will be chasing glory for his crew chief in 2022
Chase Elliott and Alan Gustafson
Chase Elliott will seek not only the cup championship next season. He also aims at securing a significant career milestone for his crew chief Alan Gustafson. He is currently the second on the list of active crew chiefs with the most career wins. Rodney Childers, who works with Kevin Harvick in SHR, holds the record with 40 wins.
Gustafson is in second place, with 38 wins, and he also has close competition in the form of 2022 Cup Champion crew chief Paul Wolfe who has 37 wins. Compared to the other two, Childers and Harvick had an average season, and the 2022 season is expected to be the last season of the party together. Harvick might retire at the end of the 2023 season.
Chase Elliott came to know about the achievement of his crew chief when he was asked about it at the 2022 NASCAR Awards. He expressed his appreciation for him and promised to do everything to make sure Gustafson reached the milestone.
“I think you guys all know how I feel about Alan and how good of a crew chief and leader I think he is and a guy that probably doesn’t get talked about enough from just what he brings to the table. But he probably enjoys not getting talked about or asked many questions, too,” Chase Elliott said.
“So, but [he] certainly does an excellent job, and it’s helped elevate me to a level that I think where we all enjoy working with each other. And we’d love to check that box for him, for sure. He deserves it,” Chase Elliott added.

One hundred ninety of his wins came with Petty and 2 with Labonte.

Chad Knaus is third on the list with 82 wins. His 81 victories came with seven times cup champion Jimmie Johnson. He won one race with William Byron. Herb Nab is 4th on the list with 76 wins, and Bud Moore completes the top 5 with 68 wins.
