The 2024 NASCAR Cup race in Atlanta will be marked in Motorsports history for the 0.003-second margin victory scored by Trackhouse Racing’s Daniel Suarez. At the same time, his teammate Ross Chastain had an eventful day driving the No:1 Chevy Camero ZL1. The 31-year-old had tangled up in an incident earlier in the race involving 2020 Cup champion Chase Elliott and finished seventh.
Last year, Elliot was at the forefront of glory and took the chequered flag at Atlanta, his home track. However, the tables turned this year as the No. 9 Chevrolet was spun after contact with Chastain. This led Elliott to finish at a disappointing 15th. Now, Denny Hamlin has commented and has given his verdict on who was to blame for the clash.
Elliott got spun out by Ross. Ross bumped him into Turn 3. I did see that one. Can’t do that to the hometown boy.Denny Hamlin said as reported by on3.com
The 51-time winner elaborated that Chastain spun out Elliott and he was the one to be blamed. This tangle in the middle of the race ruined the former champion’s chance of securing the top spot. Moreover, this clash led to some exciting racing at the front where Suarez secured the gold with an epic photo finish. Both drivers are preparing for the race in Las Vegas and will be looking to challenge for the podium places.
What does Denny Hamlin think of his incident with Kyle Busch?
Hamlin’s race in Georgia was a race to forget. The American was involved in various crashes and incidents three different times and finished a disappointing 23rd. One such incident was with Kyle Busch and he has now presented his views on the clash with him.
I don't know what happened. I thought I was clear. On the front stretch the #8 (Kyle Busch) spun us but I don't even know, I was still caught off guard. I don't know if I hedged too low down the straightaway, I knew I was on the outside, I'm not sure.Denny Hamlin said as repoted by msn.com
The duo were going side-by-side around the corner and Hamlin had the upper ground as he was ahead of the RCR car. Hamlin had turned in for the corner but didn’t anticipate that Busch could be on the inside. This small misunderstanding had caused Hamlin’s race to be reset and to limp home for replacements.
The 43-year-old would keep this race behind him and will be looking into maximizing his result for the upcoming race in Las Vegas. The American has been a staple of the sport for more than a decade and is a contender for the title this season if things go well.
