Chase Elliott wins the Ally 400
Chase Elliott topped the chart in rain-drenched Nashville Superspeedway to win his second race win in the concrete track this season, the first one coming at Dover. The No:9 Hendrick Motorsport driver had the only Chevy that was able to match the Chevy onslaught at the track led by the Joe Gibbs veteran-trio of Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Martin Truex Jr. and was able to secure the win after the decision to pit during the final caution backfired for the team.
Chase Elliott was in the lead when the caution came out after an incident with Josh Biliki, with just nine laps left to race, and except for Elliott, all the other front runners decided to pit for fresh tires which meant Kurt Busch, Ryan Blaney, and Kyle Larson joining the front pack. With nine cars staying out on the pit as they placed between the returning Toyotas from the pit out of harm’s way for the and Elliot put the 2020 champion.
Chase Elliott who had a revived chevy for the final stages was on cloud nine for the win after he beat the highest finished Toyota of 23X1 Racing driver Kurt Busch finishing at P2. Ryan Blaney was the highest finishing Ford on the track with a P3 finish while Elliott’s teammate kyle Larson finished at P4 ahead of Trackhouse Racings Ross Chastain’s at P5. The win added Elliott to the group of Logano, Byron, Chastain, and Hamlin with two race wins this season.

Chase Elliott acknowledged that he is so proud of his No:9 team for giving him such high performing dialed-back Chevy for the final stage as they were struggling at the initial stages of the race, which also saw two of his teammate William Byron and Alex Bowman going out. He pointed out that it was a long and fun day for him, especially with the work they were able to do after the penalty. He went on to thank his HMS team for the support they gave to him.
“So proud of our team. We had kind of a setback there about halfway and were able to get the Chevy dialed back in and get back in the mix. It was a long day, fun day,” Chase Elliott said.
“We were able to work on it there a little bit after our penalty and got it going a little better. So, just stuck with it. Thanks to everybody at Hendrick Motorsports, too. They’ve been working really hard,” Chase Elliott added.
He went on to acknowledge that winning a race is always huge and doing it in Nashville is always special for him and pointed out that to win it the way he did today was a special feeling for him as he looks forward to holding the guitar saying “Getting a win is always huge. To do it in a really cool city like Nashville is even better. Looking forward to that guitar,”.
Kurt Busch who failed to capitalize on the P2 start in the final restart acknowledged that he was soft with Chase Elliott something he shouldn’t have done whereas he should have thrown some fenders and changed the momentum. H added that he messed up in sticking with their strengths and added that though it was a cool finish they were not here for the p2.
“I got soft on him. I should have been throwing some fenders and moving some momentum around. I just needed to stick with our strength and I messed up. The way that we’re running, a second is cool, but we’re here for wins,” Kurt Busch said.
