NASCAR introduced the Next-Gen car in 2022, hoping to make the racing more competitive. The organization also aimed to reduce the financial burden on team owners and making the car safer. How many of these goals NASCAR was able to achieve this year stirs a big debate.

The competitive aspect of racing has surely improved. The record 19 different winners this season is a testament to it. But the big team still has some amount of dominance over the rest of the grid. The competitiveness aspect is questioned more when we analyze the fact that it’s hard to make passes on track in the Next-Gen car.

The financial safety of the team and drivers’ safety on the rides has also been criticized. The cars seem to be prone to crashes. And the after-effects are getting to hard too handle for the team owners. When it comes to driver safety, look at Kurt Busch sitting out due to concussing and Kevin Harvick’s car catching fire mid-race.

The veteran has demanded via Twitter that the sport needs NextGen 2.0. “We need NextGen 2.0. Just gotta figure out who’s gonna pay for it,” he tweeted.
