The 2022 cup season marked a lot of developments and changes in the NASCAR cup series. The next-Gen car is one of the most significant changes. Hendrick Motorsport is one of the few teams that suffered a drop in dominance due to the change. In the 2021 season where they won 17 out of 36 races. But there were only able to secure 11 wins in 2022.

The Next-Gen car negated the technological dominance and the benefit HMS derived from its superior resources. As the field became more competitive, their chase of a third consecutive cup championship ended short. Regardless the team was able to put up some solid runs as they secured the owners. All three of their Camaro ZL1 drivers confirmed R-12 entry.

Their defending cup champion Kyle Larson failed to impress as he was eliminated from R-12. No:48 car driver Alex Bowman was ruled out due to a concussion, and William Byron’s run ended in the R-8. Chase Elliott, the most consistent driver in the 2022 season, was able to secure a Championship 4 entry, but his drop in form towords final races prompted a disappointment.

Regardless HMS President Jeff Andrews still believes the season was a big success.  He said, “2022 for us was a great season. Anytime you accomplish being a part of that Championship 4 in Phoenix and have given yourself an opportunity through the season to get there, that is no small feat. That takes a ton of work and dedication by everyone here to even get there,”.

He added that the accomplishment of 2022 is no small feat considering the changes they underwent. Andrews said, “Certainly, everybody here was working hard towards a championship. I don’t think we should hang our heads at all about what we accomplished in 2022 with the change that went on with the vehicle and the unprecedented number of things we had to adapt to and overcome during the year,”.

The president listed the achievements of their 2022 season and argued that the year was great for the team. He said, “… To go out and win 11 races and have a car in the Championship 4 for both the owner’s and the driver’s championship, I think it’s a great year for Hendrick Motorsports,”.

He credited the crew members of the HMS for the success. Andrews said, “When you get a race win with all four of your cars as early as we did that in the 2022 season, it is a result of the people here at Hendrick Motorsports. The people made a difference for us in 2022. They accepted the challenge. They went into it with a great attitude and a great outlook,”.

He reiterated that the entry of all 4 of their cars to the r-12 shouldn’t be underestimated. Andrews added, “All four of our cars went out and won races very early in the 2022 season, and I think that is a great achievement. Getting all four of our cars into the Round of 12 is a tremendous achievement as well, and that should not be understated,”.
