Joey Logano secured his second cup championship in 4 years. He dominated the Phoenix cup season finale and became the first champion in the Next-Gen car era. Logano was the first race winner in the 7th Gen car. The veteran ending the season with a final win and the championship is everything the fans could have hoped for.

Logano had smooth sailing after starting the race on the pole. His primary competition on Sunday came from his teammate Ryan Blaney, who was chasing his maiden win of the year. Chase Elliott, who was the closest to Logano at the start, failed to to get close enough to make a move to outrace Logano. His hopes ended abruptly after fellow chaser Ross Chastain spun him on lap 200.

Christopher Bell suffered a poor pit stop in the final half of the race that cost him his chances.  Ross Chastain was the only driver who had a chance to catch up with Logano in the final laps. The Trackhouse driver failed to do so, though he was running the fastest laps towards the end. Chastain, who started the race P25, couldn’t get ahead of Logano’s teammate  Ryan Blaney at the end.

Amazing. It felt like it took too long to get back to this point, but winning championships is special. It’s what you want. It’s the only thing I race for. Race wins are nice, but championships are what it’s all about. We were in a great position there. Everybody on the Penske team did so great,” Joey Logano said after the championship Triumph.

Joey Logano is now the only active cup driver, other than his long-time rival Kyle Busch, to have multiple championships wins. He is all set to go for the third cup. Logano said, “It’s special. Three would be better. Let’s get another one,”.

Joey Logano thanked the No:22 garage for their efforts that secured him the win. He said, “We did it! We’re champions again, yes! Oh, my God, I’m so excited. Thank you to everybody, my team. You guys are amazing. It gave me a good race car and pit stops at the end, and got us up in front. Boy, that was just intense there at the end. It’s all about championships,”.

He was pleased to secure the win after the disappointing end to his Championship 4 race run, which he had in 2020. He said,  “That’s what it’s all about, and we worked so hard the last couple of weeks trying to put ourselves in position. And with everything that happened in 2020, I knew we just wanted to have a solid run and do this today,”.

Logano pointed out that his championship win impacted many lives while thanking his long-time sponsors. He said, “I can’t thank Ford and Shell-Pennzoil enough for supporting me over the last ten years, getting us a couple of championships today. All our partners at Team Penske, everybody that works on these cars. It’s such a big deal to win these championships. It impacts so many people’s lives,”.

Joey Logano also extended his condolences to the Gibbs family for Coy Gibbs’s death. Logano dove for JGR at the start of his career. He said, “The news this morning with Coy, too; I don’t know what to think. But my condolences go to the Gibbs family. But just an incredible day for us, and kind of mixed emotions at the moment,”.
