“Very uncertain”- JJ Reddick believes it’ll be very tough to decide MVP between Curry, Durant, Giannis, and Jokic

Stephen Curry
The MVP rankings have been filled with a list of heavy hitters like Stephen Curry who leads the rankings, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Nikola Jokic.
On the Old man and The Three podcast hosted by Tommy Alter and legendary shooter JJ Reddick, the NBA veteran shared his opinion on why all four of the top candidates have a fair shot at winning the MVP award. Reddick’s words were remarkably unbiased and valid in explaining himself.
Kevin is the best player in the world: JJ Reddick

JJ Reddick on being asked who had the best chances of winning the MVP race, said,” The MVP race this year is really interesting to me this year because of the uncertainty.” The NBA star had explained that the uncertainty of injuries, player health during covid protocols, and a number of players in a team during protocols is what will determine who comes out the victor this season.
According to him, all four candidates may change based on these factors for example Nikola Jokic who is fourth on the list can be higher if he had a better surrounding cast that includes teammate Jamal Murray. If Stephen Curry and Warriors were to lose a few games, it would lead to questioning Curry’s value. He further said it comes down to how each of these players works with their remaining players to get winning results.
“Voters don’t just vote on stats, they vote on the narrative about a team and that’s going to be factored in which in most seasons injuries may be factored in but this is just a bizarre circumstance,” said Reddick.
Will the underdogs make their way up top?

On examining the entire list, Tommy Alter had brought players like DeMar DeRozan who is also playing with MVP caliber. He said,” I think if you’re just making this choice based on just straight up team value and this was in addition to team that was not in the play-in games last year and is now depending on their help to compete for a one or two seed… I think he has to be in the conversation.”
With regards to Reddick’s notion, this situation is very much possible especially if the value of a player is considered alone. In this case, players like Chris Paul and Devin Booker would be much higher on the list with higher chances of winning the MVP award as Reddick had highlighted a little later.
Furthermore, Reddick had also mentioned that the value of a player keeps fluctuating every day or every week which could work in favor of these underdog teams and players.
