“Let’s see if he can carry this Nets team,” Kendrick Perkins challenges Kyrie Irving to ball out as Nets go down 0-1 with Kevin Durant ruled out

The Boston Celtics and Kyrie Irving have a rocky history together. The 6-foot-2 guard has frequently expressed his dislike for the team. Sadly for Irving, the Brooklyn Nets have dropped their last 9 contests with the reigning Eastern Conference Champions. Aside from their loss versus Boston, the Nets have encountered another problem. Due to an MCL sprain, Kevin Durant will now miss a couple weeks of action. He leaves Kyrie in charge of steering the team while he is away. Kyrie is having a tough time in this position so far.

Former NBA player and current broadcaster Kendrick Perkins pushed Kyrie Irving to put his team on his back and stand up with Kevin Durant once again out of the Brooklyn Nets lineup. If Irving is the superstar that he is hailed as then it is Irving’s responsibility to carry the Nets without their most significant player says Perkins. Speaking on the matter he said, “Kyrie is a Superstar right??? Let’s see if he can carry this Nets team by not only putting up big numbers but getting WINS!!! So far he’s 0-1 since KD injury! Kyrie you’re on the clock!!! Carry the hell on,”

However, to be fair, in his first game without KD, Kyrie scored a game-high 24 points. However, his shooting was poor, as evidenced by his 9 of 24 field goal attempts and a dismal 3-of-11 mark from beyond the arc. In 38 minutes of play, the seven-time All-Star added two rebounds, six assists, a steal, and a block.

Due to his injury, Durant will be out for the foreseeable future, dealing a cruel blow to their season. Brooklyn turned their season around and went on to win 12 straight games thanks in large part to Durant, who was averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game and was in the MVP discussion.

The fact that the Nets are currently second in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 27-14 is sufficient evidence that they have overcome all of their summertime problems. The Nets, who many thoughts were finished, have made a run and preserved their season after letting go of head coach Steve Nash in November. Of course, Durant gets a lot of praise for his bravery, but so should Jacque Vaughn, the team’s new head coach, who improved locker room spirits.

Unfortunately, the Nets will now have to play the upcoming few weeks without their greatest player, and Irving will bear that burden. Only time will tell if Kyrie has what it takes to lead his team as their go-to player and keep them competitive while his co-star heals.
