“Wanted to do something to Zach” LeBron James reveals true feelings on witnessing Russell Westbrook bleed on court
LeBron with Russell Westbrook
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated San Antonio Spurs in a high-scoring game on Saturday. Russell Westbrook became the target of one of the most horrendous fouls in the game when Zach Collins elbowed him on a play. As bleeding from his forehead Westbrook charged toward Collins. But fortunately, LeBron grabbed and took Russ for first-aid medical attention.
Just 2 minutes to go in the fourth quarter and Russell wanted to dunk a pass from LeBron James. After being blocked Russ again collected the ball and used the pump fake to score on the second opportunity. However, Zach Collins’s elbow hit him so hard that Russell started to bleed profusely.
As Westbrook went down. Collins stared at the point guard and started to walk off in another direction. Westbrook immediately got up and rushed towards Zach to get even, but LeBron grabbed Russ and avoided the altercation. The interaction got under control once Westbrook realized he was bleeding from his forehead.
After being attended by the medics to treat his heavily bleeding forehead, the All-Star point guard came back to the court. He shot 1 of 3 three free throws for Collins’ flagrant-2 before retiring into the locker room. The veteran point guard never returned to the game.
Speaking to the media in the post-game interview LeBron said he was concerned about Russell’s health beyond anything. “Before we became teammates, we’ve always been like brothers and cool and things of that nature,” LeBron said about Russ. “His health is more important than the game of basketball.” He was also trying to defuse the fight as much as possible.
LeBron James wanted to do something to Collins after he elbowed Russell Westbrook
LeBron James was perhaps the first person to see the cut on Brodie‘s head. After Zach elbowed the former OKC superstar, his immediate reaction was he wanted to do something to Collins. “I actually saw the cut right when it happened … and wanted to uh…wanted to do something to Zach,” LeBron James said.
What coach Darvin Ham saw from the team was a sense of comradery and playing for each other. “That’s what togetherness looks like,” said Darvin Ham. “Being there for your teammate. The Laker coach was happy not only with LeBron’s scoring show but also with his leadership on the court to bring guys together.
LeBron James scored season-high 39 points for the Los Angeles Lakers in absence of Anthony Davis who is out due to a calf strain. James shot 11 of 21 from the field and 7 of 11 from the three-point line. For the next few games, the Lakers are up against teams like Portland Trail Blazers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Indiana Pacers, all with better winning percentages than the Lakers. So the games are going to be challenging but if the trio is committed and doing what they should do, the team can surely land on the winning end.
