Jimmy Garoppolo and the postseason are not a match made in heaven. While his team has had success with him at the helm, he himself has either struggled or has simply gone missing.

For proof, just take a look at his games in the playoffs this year. In his two games this year, he hasn’t crossed 200 yards in either of them and hasn’t had a completion percentage above 6. Along with that he’s thrown an interception in both of them and is yet to throw a touchdown. But the Niners won both games so people forget his performances. This prompted Nick Wright to bring light to the matter.

Appearing on Fox Sports’ ‘First Things First’ Nick Wright was quoted saying “He’s never been the reason they’ve won a playoff game. He has been bad in every single playoff victory the Niners have had with him. The first one he ever had, he threw 17 passes, the second one he ever had, he threw 8 passes.”

To further emphasize his point, Wright mentioned this year’s postseason games as well, saying “In this year’s playoffs he’s been bad in both games. On a list of touchdown passes thrown this postseason, you know who’s ahead of Jimmy G on it? Travis Kelce. That’s a true story.”

About the 49ers NFC Championship matchup with the LA Rams, Wright said “The idea that I can only choose one of two doors and the doors are, Jimmy Garoppolo is the reason the Niners lose because he can’t complete passes or that Jimmy Garoppolo for the first time in his playoff career leads his team to a victory by playing well, then, of course, he’s more likely to be the reason they lose. He’s never done it.”

Jimmy Garoppolo faces an extremely tough test against the LA Rams this Sunday. Luckily for him, he has the defense and run game that’s helped him to his previous 5 playoff victories. It’s entirely possible that the game ends up in an old-fashioned slugfest with the defenses being the main feature but it’s likely that Stafford and the Rams offense will find some form of offense late in the game at the very least. If that happens, it’ll come down to Jimmy Garoppolo to get the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
