“I promised my mother,” Bucs HC Todd Bowles reveals EMOTIONAL reason for finishing his bachelor’s degree

Todd Bowles talked about earning his college degree.

Todd Bowles the Head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has accomplished a lot in his life. Bowles is a 3 time Super Bowl champion once as a player, executive, and assistant coach. Now he is the head coach of a team that is among the favourites to lift the Lombardi this season so what can a man at the top of his career want?

A college degree apparently. Todd Bowles recently earned a bachelor’s degree in youth and community development at Mount St. Mary’s University. Bowles who played college football for Temple left before getting his degree to play in the NFL.

He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the then Washington Redskins(now called the Washington Commanders) with whom he won SuperBowl XXII and even had a brief stint with the San Fransisco 49ers. Since retiring Bowles had been involved in multiple roles with various teams throughout the league.

Todd Bowles was asked about what inspired him to get his degree at this point in his life He talked about being a father and a promise he made to his late mother- “As a father, it’s a good time to get it because I have a sophomore at Rutgers, and I have one that’s a senior now and one that’s in sixth grade. So, just getting that hopefully helps them get theirs and they can do something with it. For me, it was a personal thing as far as a promise I made to my mother before she passed that I would go back and get it.

Bowles also talked about how he wanted to do so for a long time and after encouragement from his friends and family with the promise to his mother and the desire to set an inspiration for his kids. He started working on getting the degree and how it was tough with his high-pressure job.

The Buccaneers’ head coach is an inspiration for many across all strata of society not just for athletes who left college without their degree to play in the NFL.
