As the new season approaches, player contracts are a focal point of debate. Dallas Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb is in the thick of it, as only two years remain in his rookie contract. This begs the question: when does the 24-year-old get a contract extension? Lamb will have a base salary of $2.520 million in 2023 and count $4.458 million against the salary cap. This will make him earn around $19.7 million on his fifth-year option for 2024. When asked about how he feels about the contract talks behind the scenes, Lamb said he isn’t thinking about it too much.

The 6’2″ Oklahoma native is one of the brightest stars in the Cowboys lineup, and the Dallas team will surely be looking to wrap things up quickly before the season begins. Lamb denied having any distractions about the contract talks; he said he is 100% confident they will happen soon.

Quite honestly, I’ll be 100 percent honest; I’m not even distracted,” Lamb said in an interview recently. He also mentioned that he is not too concerned about how much he will make after the new contract and is only focused on his game: “I am not thinking about how much money I am going to make if I do this. It’s really all about coming in, showing my worth, and letting everything else handle itself.”

Lamb also said that he would let his agent handle all the contract talks. He said, “That’s for my (Lamb’s) agent.” He just wants to play football.

While the Cowboys bolster a very strong squad overall, the wide receiver position has been a point of concern since Amari Cooper‘s departure back in 2022. With very few people who could fill up the spot, they had to resign an injured Michael Gallup, which cost around $62.5. Moreover, the Cowboys had to put their trust in career backup Noah Brown.

Needless to say, the Cowboys had a weak spot for other teams to exploit. However, in 2020, they drafted CeeDee Lamb as the 17th overall pick. He immediately became the team’s star receiver, playing behind Cooper and catching 74 passes for 935 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie campaign. Lamb even led the NFL in non-offensive touchdowns that season.

His improvement was clear to every Cowboys fan’s eyes as he registered 1102 receiving yards and six receiving TDs. In three years, Lamb received two Pro Bowl nods and one second-team All-Pro recognition.
