The San Francisco 49ers are having quite a strong season, leading 5 games into the NFC West. Colin Cowherd recently commented that one of the biggest reasons for their success was none other than their quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo.

Garoppolo was benched at the beginning for second quarterback Trey Lance. However, it seemed to have no effect on him, as he picked up right where he left off, leading the 49ers to 3 victories in their last 4 games. Soon after, Garoppolo went on to take charge after a season-ending injury plagued Lance in Week 2.

“Jimmy G is one of those guys that just keeps his head down, doesn’t whine, doesn’t complain. He says just the right stuff at the podium. And that’s a skill by the way, we’ve seen lots of quarterbacks that cannot handle the podium,” Cowherd said, showering praise on Garoppolo.

The quarterback hasn’t missed a beat and certainly doesn’t look like someone who had surgery just a couple of months ago. He has thrown 5 touchdowns in the last 4 games and has only had one interception. Colin Cowherd went on to defend the quarterback for his exceptional performance till now.

Jimmy Garoppolo in his 2 years that he has been healthy he’s gotten to the NFC Championship. Garoppolo was suddenly thrust into a starting role, despite not practicing or playing in the pre-season. He’s missing his best tackle, his left tackle and his top running back,” said Cowherd, talking about Garoppolo working in high-pressure situations.

“I know it’s so hard to admit you’re wrong. The 49ers are really good and one of the reasons is this dude. He doesn’t have the prettiest throw, the biggest arm. But he does have an accurate release. They ask him to make tough throws, and he does. He doesn’t throw interceptions either,” said Cowherd, concluding that it was one of the best decisions for the 49ers to take him.
