Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady retired from professional football earlier this year. He played in the NFL for 23 years and won seven Super Bowls. The former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback of all time. He recently appeared on the Stephen A. Smith Show and commented on the state of the league today.

Brady claimed that the league is filled with ‘mediocrity’ as it has seemingly lost the excellence of previous eras. His comments have garnered mixed reactions from the football community.

I just don’t think it’s the same love and protection toward defensive players, at that. I 100% agree with Tom, I think there’s players and there’s teams that take advantage of these rules. You look at today’s NFL with a lot of QBs flopping on hits. You’re looking at guys who are kind of flailing, they hit them hard, they lead with their shoulder and it looks like it’s a helmet-to-helmet.
Parsons said on his podcast, The Edge.

He further continued:

They get fined $40,000, they’re trying to protect these guys. The blindside hits, I agree should be taken out. But there’s a lot of things, a lot of hits that you can’t make — you can’t leave your feet when you’re making a hit. This is 100% correct.

Brady played in the league till last season. He experienced the state of the NFL firsthand and did not hesitate to comment on it. However, some players think that the league today has brought a lot of parity in the game. It seems like this debate will go on for a while.

Brady said:

We’re asking pro players to play college football. That’s the biggest difference I see. It’s way more checkers than it is chess. I tried to play chess. I wanted to have three moves ahead of you at all times. I think the point is, you want to see the game continue to grow and evolve.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion is one of the greatest players in the history of the NFL. He is the winningest quarterback in the league’s history and has won three league MVPs to go along with his five Super Bowl MVPs. His last game in the NFL came against the Dallas Cowboys in last year’s Wild Card Round.
