The franchise tag deadline has passed and half of the quarterbacks in free agency have been signed by teams. The Seahawks extended their new superstar under the center, Geno Smith, to a three-year $105 million. The Saints scooped up veteran quarterback Derek Carr and signed him to a four-year $150 million contract and will now have a real shot at playoffs since Drew Brees.

The heavyweight quarterbacks still left in free agency are Jimmy Garoppolo, Baker Mayfield, and Aaron Rodgers. There is no doubt that teams have already lined up to sign Rodgers, even if it’s for a year because he is the best at what he does. Jimmy G has shown his ability to lead a franchise all the way as he did with the 49ers during their Super Bowl LIV campaign. Mayfield showed a bit of spark that made him the first overall pick in 2018.

And talking about the biggest, let’s call it a mystery, because everyone has been in the dark for the past 12 months, the Ravens have finally thrown down the hammer and given the verdict about Lamar Jackson’s future in the NFL. Baltimore placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, making him eligible to negotiate with teams to find a landing spot for 2023.

The New York Giants saw a rise in their production and ability to win games in the last season. 2022 Coach of The Year Brian Daboll completely revamped the Giants’ locker room and reignited the fire in the players and made them hungry for wins. The Giants went 9-7-1 during the regular season and made it all the way to the divisional playoffs. Fourth-year quarterback Daniel Jones was a major contributor to the success of the team, as his performance was that of a first-round pick, probably for the very first time in his career.

The Giants initially declined Jones’ fifth-year option and in his do-or-die season, the 25-year-old went off and secured himself a playing spot for the next few years. Given his exceptional performance, the New York-based franchise signed a four-year $160 million contract extension with him. Daniel Jones can earn up to $35 million in incentives from workouts, playoff wins, and such, making the contract worth around $195 million.

Seeing the Giants pay Jones $40 million a year who originally wanted a contract worth $45 million, the Internet completely lost its mind. Fans were irked at the Ravens who placed the franchise tag on Lamar Jackson who has a more decorated resume than Jones, which includes an NFL MVP. ESPN analyst Ryan Clark also expressed his disappointment with the Ravens on Twitter.

The Giants made one more move post, extending Daniel Jones. They franchise-tagged star running back Saquon Barkley and kept him for one more year. Jones will earn $82 million during his first two years and if he continues to show the same progress he did in 2022, the Giants will move forward with him or cut him if he declines. Let’s see how Jones performs now that he has received a contract of his liking.
