“Can’t wait until his a** is fired!” – ‘Frustrated’ Chargers HC Brandon Staley bashing journalists after loss to the Packers doesn’t sit well with fans on social media

Social media and a section of the Chargers fandom want Staley gone or at least step away from defensive play calling.

Brandon Staley has had enough of the media pushing the narrative that the Los Angeles Chargers can’t defend even though they lost against the Green Bay Packers despite leading the game most of the night. It was their second straight loss that came late after the two-minute warning.

A 41-yard Riely Patterson field goal settled the game for the Detroit Lions in week 10. On Sunday, a 24-yard pass from Packers quarterback Jordan Love to receiver Romeo Doubs handed the Chargers their sixth loss of the season.

In those two games, Staley’s defense gave up 930 yards and has struggled to move the ball at times. But he remains confident in their play style.

Staley after the game said,

You can stop asking that question, okay! I’m going to be calling the defense. So you don’t have to ask that again.

He has been the one calling the shots for the Chargers’ defense since he took charge as head coach back in 2021. It’s fair to say it hasn’t worked out to the team’s benefit, even though they have the likes of Khalil Mack and Derwin James Jr. Not to mention they had one of the best pass rushers in football, Joey Bosa, whom they will sorely miss going forward due to injury.

On top of that, they have a top quarterback in the form of Justin Herbert, who keeps giving his best but comes out short in the end. The $262.5 million man has thrown 19 touchdowns and just five picks, and yet he is on a team that is 4-6 at the halfway point of the season. Not only that, he is the first player to lose 30 games as a QB since 2020.

Brandon Staley said the defense wasn’t to blame for the loss against the Packers

It’s not like they are capable of winning games. They are not like the Pittsburgh Steelers, whose offense is horrible, yet they still find ways to win. Veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen recently became their all-time top receiver. He has already crossed the 1,000-yard threshold with just 83 receptions.

It all comes down to that team’s ability to defend points. If Brandon Staley is to believe they have made improvements, it wasn’t the defense that caused them the Packers game. Staley said,

You guys act like we've never played good defense. That's not the truth. Today, in the run game, we played outstandingly. We're rushing the quarterback well. There are a lot of other things that caused us to lose today. It certainly wasn't our defense.

But the question is: how long will they be able to keep this up? Herbert is constantly put in awkward spots, and at times it appears he is single-handedly trying to save the game. They will have their work cut out when a rampant Baltimore Ravens side arrives at SoFi Stadium next week.
