During the final seconds of the game, Grady Gross perfectly nailed a 42-yard failed game-winning field goal for Washington as the clock ran out. Gross missed a 43-yard field goal attempt early in the game, but he redeemed himself during clutch time and kept the Huskies’ playoff hopes alive.

As a result, the Washington Huskies managed to secure a 24-21 victory against the Washington State Cougars and remain undefeated in the college football season.

It was something we'd been talking about. He'd earned it. He's really had a great year. Our team really believes in Grady. They love him.
DeBoer said on his postgame conference.

Gross has had a great season so far since he replaced the Huskies kicker Peyton Henry. He has converted 11 of his 15 attempts and has been perfect on extra point attempts as he converted all 55 of his attempts.

DeBoer’s confidence in Gross really showed when he said that he was even willing to attempt a 50-plus yards field goal if it was necessary. Gross’ career longest is a 47-yard FG against the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Nonetheless, a 50-plus yard FG attempt was necessary as Washington’s offense managed to shorten the yardage. Next, the Huskies will take on the No.6 ranked Oregon Ducks in the Pac-12 championship game.
