A lot of cat-and-mouse play is going on between Brock Purdy and Nick Wright presently. Wright denounces Purdy, and the QB produces a masterclass on the turf. And the loop goes on.

This has become a frequent affair this season. A few days back, Wright denounced Purdy’s MVP chances and the 49ers signalcaller gave a sensational performance against the Philadelphia Eagles. Purdy registered four TDs for more than 300 yards and blew the Eagles out with a 42-19 margin.

But that was not enough to win Wright’s mind. In the recent episode of the show ‘First Thing First’, the analyst emphasized that Purdy was not the driving force behind the 49ers’ blowout win against the Eagles.

Was Brock Purdy the best player on his team yesterday? No, Deebo was. When I say, it is more than just the numbers--It is important to know that Brock Purdy got the perfect passer rating and about 100 yards of passing and two touchdowns on these two Deebo plays.

Wright tried to put forth the point of how other 49ers’ players helped Purdy register four touchdowns in the game.

This has not happened for the first time this season. Since, the beginning of the season, the analyst has been giving his flowers to other players of the 49ers than Purdy. It started with Christian McCaffrey, as the analyst gave credit to him for the early success.

Brock Purdy’s name is hitting the MVP discussions

After the bye week, the 49ers quarterback has come back strongly into the MVP debate. He lost his rhythm midway through the season. After the much-needed bye week, he came back strongly.

Purdy registered 11 touchdowns in four games and his performances against the Buccaneers and the Eagles will go down as one of the best ever. With his heroism post-bye week, Purdy has come back to the MVP debate. He is presently topping the quarterbacks leaderboard.

However, Nick Wight is not someone who seriously indulges in these discussions. He believes Purdy should not be awarded the MVP award. Wright even publicly refuted the claims by the popular media outlet the Athletic. After the game against the Bucs, Purdy was hailed by the Athletic as the possible MVP award winner. Wright took the issue to Twitter (now known as X) and dismissed the claim.
