The New York Jets seem to follow in the 2021 Los Angeles Rams’ footsteps. The Rams went all in with Matthew Stafford and signed all the elite free agents such as Von Miller and Odell Beckham Jr. to win Super Bowl LVI. Now, the Jets are mortgaging a lot to acquire Aaron Rodgers from the Packers and new reports suggest that the New York-based franchise is planning to have OBJ on the roster as well.
Once Aaron Rodgers gave the Jets the thumbs up to join their team, he also gave them a list of players or weapons he wanted on the offense with him. The Jets happily obliged and signed Rodgers’s former teammate WR Allen Lazard to a four-year contract. Additionally, they also signed former Chiefs wideout Mecole Hardman.
Recent rumors suggest that Odell Beckham Jr. has also shown an interest to play for the Jets which now looks like a Super Bowl contender. ESPN’s Jeff Darlington said, “We should very much consider Odell Beckham on the table for the Jets. Financials still in the way, but I still think Odell Beckham will end up with the Jets.” With Beckham joining the team, the Jets’ receiving corps just might be the best in the league.
New York already has Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson at WR1 and their depth chart just go more dangerous with the arrival of Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman, and probably Odell Beckham Jr. The Jets currently have $10.2 million in cap space as per overthecap.com which won’t be a problem since Beckham revised his original $15-20 million asking price.
Odell Beckham Jr. doesn’t need a high salary
Odell Beckham Jr. played his last snap in Super Bowl LVI with the Rams. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL after a weird landing and had to stay out for the entire 2022 season. There was a lot of interest from the Dallas Cowboys to sign him to the active roster during the regular season, but nothing materialized. The star wideout had a private workout session for teams in Arizona. The short clips Beckham released on his social media accounts quickly went viral as he was back to his old self, catching one-handed passes.
NFL has officially entered Week 2 of free agency and yet Odell Beckham Jr. is in the market and the reason reported by the media was that the 30-year-old wanted a compensation of $20 million per year. However, OBJ refuted the news and tweeted “4 ain’t enough.” With the Jets going all in to build a championship team, having Beckham on the field might give them a boost.
Let’s see if the Jets are successful in winning the Super Bowl or if all of this is for nothing!
