Greg Roman, offensive coordinator and the mastermind behind the Ravens’ offense rumored to take over the HC role at Stanford
Baltimore Ravens OF Greg Roman could very soon be the Head Coach of the football program at Stanford.
The mastermind behind the Baltimore Ravens offense, Greg Roman, could no longer be a part of the organization. This is because he has received a job offer to be a Head Coach at Stanford University. He is the top contender in the race to secure the top job as per Ian Rapoport. Stanford is looking to hire a new HC to replace David Shaw, who has had the position for 12 years.
Stanford University is of the opinion that the interest is mutual. As per Athletic Director Bernard Muir, who interacted with Greg Roman, the interest between both sides appears to be high. If this does turn out to be true, then Roman would essentially be returning home. He has previously been the assistant HC at Stanford under Jim Harbaugh in the 2009-10 season.
Greg Roman is an accomplished coach. He was a finalist for the Broyles Award in 2010, an accolade handed out to the top college football assistant coach in the entire country. The indication of Stanford extending an offer to Roman was first reported by Stewart Mandel, the editor-in-chief of The Athletic’s college football wing. Eventually, John Harbaugh, the Ravens HC confirmed this news.
In a press conference, this is what Harbaugh had to say, “I think it’s very preliminary right now. We have really great coaches, they’re going to have opportunities. We try to encourage that and support that any way we can.” Greg Roman has been a big reason behind the success of Lamar Jackson.
Greg Roman would be a great asset to Stanford University to turn its football program around:
Lamar Jackson won the NFL MVP award in 2019 while working with Roman. He has developed into one of the most versatile quarterbacks in the league who is an all-around threat. However, that is not all that Romans does.
He is an offensive mastermind. His play calls and schematics have aided countless coaches in the last decade. He is able to come up with schemes that have the perfect combination of the running and passing game for mobile quarterbacks. His plays have been integrated into the playbooks of other teams in the league.
Some other notable QBs that he has worked with are Andrew Luck, Tyrod Taylor, Alex Smith, and Colin Kaepernick. A source who is close to Greg Roman stated that the coach is strongly considering returning to Stanford, where he initially began his career. It would be interesting to see if he will be able to turn the fate of Stanford football around and make the team into a top contender yet again.
