“I can hang with guys like that”: New York Jets rookie Sauce Gardner CALLS OUT Tyreek Hill ahead of their matchup

Sauce Gardner is lookng forward to guarding Tyreek Hill
The New York Jets finally have a star player who they can be proud of. Rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner has shocked the NFL with how good he is at his position. He is fast, he can make quick reads, and most importantly, can keep up with the wide receivers he is supposed to guard. It comes as no surprise that the Head Coach Robert Saleh is already trusting him to guard the top wideout talent in the NFL and is putting him up against elite players such as Tyreek Hill.
The New York Jets play the Miami Dolphins this Sunday and it will be the first time that Sauce Gardner gets a first-hand experience of what it is to guard Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Both of them are the best wideouts in the NFL and Hill, in particular, is no joke. There is a reason he is called the cheetah. You flinch once and the next thing you know is he is in the endzone celebrating a touchdown.
“This is what I dreamed about”: Sauce Gardner is living his dream by guarding the best receivers in the world.

While most rookies may seem nervous ahead of having to guard such talent, Sauce Gardner is grateful that he is in a position to be able to do so. “This is what I dreamed about coming to the NFL. The goals that I have for myself like Rookie of the Year, All-Pro, Pro-Bowl, all that type of stuff. I’ve got to go against guys like that in order to be recognized. It’s a great opportunity. Me and D.J. Reed and the rest of the secondary was talking about it. It’s a great opportunity to show the world what we can do,” Gardner told the New York Post.
In just 4 games, Sauce has guarded the top wideout talent in the NFL such as Amari Cooper, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins. This Sunday, he gets to experience a totally different animal in Tyreek Hill and an excellent route runner in Jaylen Waddle. Miami has a boost like no other. The one thing they do not lack is speed, and we have seen that in their games so far.
Tyreek Hill leads the league with 477 yards receiving and is second in total catches with 31 in total. Jaylen Waddle, on the other hand, has had 381 yards receiving so far, and he leads the league with an average of 18.1 yards per catch. At this rate, the duo is on track to have a historic season and may both end up averaging over 90 receiving yards per game in the same season. A feat that has not yet been done after 2000.
Gardner spoke about the challenge of guarding Hill, “I went against guys that was fast like Jameson Williams from Bama. He was fast. I ain’t saying he’s Tyreek Hill fast, but I’ve got certain things that I like to do so I can be able to hang guys like that.” Gardner has lived up to his true potential so far and the Jets may have finally gotten their pick right this time.
The cornerback has let his targets get only 9 catches on 19 targets and allowed 101 yards in reception along with one touchdown through 4 games. He has allowed only one wideout to have a 50-yard game on him. It came in week 3 when Tee Higgins scored 51 yards in two catches.
The cornerback still sees a lot of room for improvement in his game. “I can always do better. I feel like I’ve played pretty well so far.” His mentality is second to none and Robert Saleh has praised it on numerous occasions. “He’s got this mindset like, ‘I may have screwed that one up, but you still got lucky, you didn’t get that on me,’ That’s his mindset. I love where he’s at, he’s growing every day, and like I said, he’s only going to get better eventually. He won’t need communication because he’s going to know immediately and he’s going to do the communicating. He’s a special one.”
This Sunday, it will be amazing to see how Sauce holds up against the likes of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Gardner is a much needed breath of fresh air for an organization such as the New York Jets.
