American sports analyst Shannon Sharpe recently spoke about Tom Brady’s clutch mentality. Brady, 45, pulled the Tampa Bay Buccaneers out from the dead against the New Orleans Saints. The Bucs trailed the game 3-16 with just 5 minutes remaining and then Brady used all his years of experience to lead the team with 2 back-to-back touchdown drives that sealed the game.

Speaking on Undisputed with Skip Bayless, Sharpe discussed the clutch mentality of various players across different sports. He said that he needs to see guys create an impact on the game as a whole but argued that Brady, as a quarterback, leads the offense, but without the help of other players, those clutch drives couldn’t be executed.

He cited the example of Michael Jordan and said that in basketball, he not only blocks the players but also scored the winning shot on the other side of the court, and for Sharpe himself, that is clutch.

“I need to see guys who could impact the game on both ends of the court. I understand that Tom Brady has set teams up in positions but he has nothing to do with the kicks and interceptions. Last night, did Tom Brady lodge the ball from Taysom Hill? No, he didn’t. That’s the part of it. I’m looking at LeBron James, who impacts the game on both ends. He blocks and also takes the shot or Michael Jordan steals the ball and goes down and hits the game-winning shot,” Sharpe said.

He admitted that Brady is a clutch player and admitted that denying Brady is clutch will be foolish. He added that LeBron James, despite being called a ‘choker’ so many times, has a brilliant record in the playoffs- even better than Michael Jordan.

“Tom Brady is clutch, no question about that. I’m not trying to take that away from him, I’d be foolish to even try. You look at LeBron James, in his playoff career, he has 8 shots to tie or win the game in the final 7 seconds of the game, and that’s two more than Michael Jordan,” he said.

He said that when considering team sports, he can name LeBron James & Michael Jordan as clutch players while Serena Williams and Tiger Woods are clutch players for individual sports.

“That means, he has to do it! Skip, this is what I don’t understand, the receiver is dependent position. So is the quarterback not a dependent position? I need to see guys that can impact games on both ends of the court. I’m looking at LeBron James & Michael Jordan for team sports and Serena Williams & Tiger Woods for individual sports,” he added.

At the end, he shockingly said that he doesn’t consider Tom Brady as the most clutch player of all time. “To cut it short, No!” he exclaimed.
