The New Orleans Saints are playing the Detroit Lions at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. It is a game between two teams who’ve had opposing seasons so far. The Saints are 5-6 this season and are in danger of missing the playoffs.
The Lions, on the other hand, have had a phenomenal season. They started the season with a bang, defeating the reigning Super Bowl champions in their backyard. Since then, they have carried that momentum further.
Dan Campbell’s men came out swinging in this game, scoring 21 unanswered points in the first quarter. However, since then, the Saints are climbing back into the game. In their attempt to make a comeback, the Saints’ RB Alvin Kamara fell awkwardly on a sideline worker’s leg and appears to have injured it very badly.
In a video viral on social media, Kamara appeared to fall out of bounds and on the left leg of a sideline worker. Once the rusher got up from his spot, the cameras caught the man rolling on the sidelines with a visible break in his leg.
The incident took place in the second quarter with just over 5 minutes left to play in the first half. The official was stretchered off after the incident to ensure proper medical treatment.
The Lions went into halftime with a 21-7 lead. However, the Saints scored two touchdowns in the third quarter as the game is delicately poised heading into the fourth.
Alvin Kamara breaks Saints’ rushing touchdowns record set by Mark Ingram II
The New Orleans Saints vs. Detroit Lions game at the Superdome saw a bit of history as Saints’ RB Alvin Kamara broke the franchise record for most rushing touchdowns. He broke Mark Ingram II‘s record of 52 touchdowns set in 2018. Kamara broke that record on a 2-yard touchdown run against the Lions in the third quarter.
Kamara was drafted in the year third round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Saints. Since coming into the league, Kamara has been brilliant. He won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in his first season in the league and made All-Pro teams in 2017 and 2020. He is also a 5-time Pro-Bowler in his seven years in the league.
So far this season, the Pro Bowl running back has run for 388 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He also has 305 receiving yards and a touchdown this season. Against the Lions, Kamara has racked up 14 carries for 51 yards and a couple of touchdowns so far with just over two minutes left in the game.
