“It’s been long enough” Stephen A. Smith DEMANDS the Packers to shut down Aaron Rodgers after his abysmal season and try out Jordan Love instead
Aaron Rodgers and Stephen A. Smith
Renowned personality Stephen A. Smith has urged the Green Bay Packers to shut Aaron Rodgers down after his yet another poor outing for the team. The Green Bay Packers went down 4-8 for the season after they lost to the in-form Philadelphia Eagles 33-40. They are now almost out of contention for the playoffs as their season just keeps getting worse.
On First Take, Stephen A. Smith spoke about Aaron Rodgers’ situation with the Packers. The legendary quarterback has underperformed massively this season and is playing with a serious injury that is affecting the team’s performance. Smith believes that the Packers should bench him now that their season is virtually over because it doesn’t make sense to continue with Rodgers if they have nothing to play for.
“Absolutely. The reason why is, you didn’t bring him for this year, you brought him for the next few years. The fact of the matter is the Green Bay Packers are going home at the end of this regular season and they will not be in the playoffs. They are 4-8, they looked abysmal defensively, and they gave up 500 total yards. We saw that yesterday and when you look at that perspective, this season’s over. And because this season’s over, why would you put Aaron Rodgers back in that situation?” Smith said.
Instead, he believes that it is a perfect opportunity for the Packers to try Jordan Love instead of Rodgers. Love showed that he can be a reliable quarterback during the last moments against the Eagles and hence, it makes total sense to start him.
“What you do is you find out it’s the perfect opportunity to find out about Jordan Love where he’s going to be your starter, where you get to watch and evaluate him and look at what he brings to the table. When there is no Aaron Rodgers in the game and then all of a sudden he comes in because Aaron Rodgers goes down like he did last night,” he said.

Smith added that while he didn’t believe that it was the right decision to let Rodgers sit out a few weeks, he now thinks that the circumstances are perfect for the Packers to try this fresh change given Rodgers himself is not healthy.
“It’s been long enough. I wasn’t an advocate of this weeks ago to be clear and consistent. I was like, Aaron Rodgers, this is the mess he created and still got a chance- you play a part in fixing this but with his health in question, and the playoff aspirations no longer in question, you’re home. The fact of the matter is I’m the Green Bay Packers, I use it as a perfect opportunity to find out what I have in Jordan Love, who by the way, looked pretty damn good last night,” he added.
The Green Bay Packers will now face the Bears and the Rams in the coming two weeks before facing the Dolphins on Christmas. With a 4-8 record for the season, they are almost out of contention for the playoffs and are currently third in the NFC North division.
