Oleksandr Usyk made history when he fought Tyson Fury earlier this year. However, his win against the undefeated champion was marred by accusations of using an inhaler in between rounds. The Ukrainian debunked this in a recent interview, stating that he did not need to use banned substances.

Oleksandr Usyk recently did an interview with Boxing King Media. During the discussion, he addressed the accusations online about using an inhaler during his fight against Tyson Fury. The Ukrainian superstar claimed that he was clean and insinuated ‘his beliefs’ as the drug he took.

St*pid people. Listen, I never used any banned substance. Never. I'm clean. The cross is my doping. My belief is my doping. My family, my team, my country - this my doping.

The fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury took place earlier this May in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Usyk walked out of that fight with the win by split decision. The judges scored the bout 115-112 and 114-113 in favor of Usyk, while one judge had it 114-113 for Fury. This win made Usyk the first undisputed heavyweight champion in the four-belt era.

Regarding the controversy, accusations emerged claiming that Usyk used an illegal inhaler during the fight. After the seventh round, some spectators noted that Usyk appeared to put something in his mouth, which sparked much speculation. However, these claims were debunked as no evidence supported the allegation. Instead, what Usyk had put in his mouth was simply the Christian cross.

Oleksandr Usyk expresses love for the UK and his fans

Oleksandr Usyk has fought a couple of British boxers over the years. He fought Tony Bellew back in 2018 for the undisputed cruiserweight championship. Usyk won that fight by knockout in the eighth round. He also fought Anthony Joshua in 2021 and won by unanimous decision, claiming the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles.

In a rematch, the Ukrainian defeated Joshua again. His latest win also came against a Brit in Tyson Fury. Nevertheless, Usyk believes fans in the UK love him despite beating their British fighters. Usyk said that he respects his opponents, and even though they are rivals in the sport, they are fans. He also expresses love for the UK fans and the country.

Oleksandr Usyk’s reign as the undisputed heavyweight boxing world champion was short-lived. He had to let go of his IBF title, which was later claimed by Daniel Dubois when he defeated Filip Hrgovic. Meanwhile, Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury will fight again as their contract contained a rematch clause. The heavyweight giants will clash later this year in December. As such, Fury will attempt to get revenge for his broken streak as an undefeated boxing world champion.
