Expressing her thoughts at the “Real Time with Bill Maher”, Porter said that Gaines is using the situation to her advantage and is now trying to turn people against the trans athlete community. She labeled this act of Gaines as an act of publicity and only doing it for a few clicks and likes.

We made eye contact which she very quickly acted like she was on the phone because she didn’t want to address me. But I went up to her and introduced myself and said, ‘Hello Rep. Porter. My name is Riley Gaines.’ And she looked at me and said, ‘Congrats on being a competitor.’ That’s what she said,” Gaines informed.

The swimmer would later try to have another word with her but was unsuccessful. She called out Porter for her coward behaviour and for not backing up her words while leaving the scene so abruptly.

The ban laid out by World Athletics on the participation of trans athletes has seen several debates and controversies rise up. On Wednesday, another controversy sparked when renowned sports collection company Adidas advertised a woman’s swimsuit as a part of their unique pride collection. The company together with South African designer Rich Mnisi announced their new collection.

Riley Gaines, who finds herself in the middle of media spotlight regarding this whole trans athlete ban thing, was quick to raise her objection. She lashed out at the company for this attempt. She raised her eyebrows over Adidas for not having any trans female model to don the swimsuit. This entire thing will surely blow up soon, Gaines told Fox News.

The company soon found itself under the massive disapproval of social media users. Many called to avoid the usage Adidas products for this action. They are yet to make an official statement regarding this controversy which has flared up.

This incident has become similar to the Bud Light controversy, as they saw sales drop by huge margins after the company declared a partnership with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
