In recent weeks, the name of Riley Gaines has been the main talking point of conversations. The former NCAA swimmer has taken up the activist role in protesting for the ban of trans athletes on women-event only.
A few days ago, she appeared before Congress and revealed some horrific experiences she had faced. Recently Gaines enlightened the moment she met Representative Katie Porter and how she tried to have a word with her. Gaines was referring to the comments used by the democratic on her.
Porter had allegedly accused the swimmer of raising her voice in support of the ban only for clicks and likes. When asked about this, Gaines revealed her meeting with the Democratic and how she left the scene quickly. Gaines revisited this encounter while making center stage with Dan Dakich at Don’t @ Me.
Expressing her thoughts at the “Real Time with Bill Maher”, Porter said that Gaines is using the situation to her advantage and is now trying to turn people against the trans athlete community. She labeled this act of Gaines as an act of publicity and only doing it for a few clicks and likes.
“We made eye contact which she very quickly acted like she was on the phone because she didn’t want to address me. But I went up to her and introduced myself and said, ‘Hello Rep. Porter. My name is Riley Gaines.’ And she looked at me and said, ‘Congrats on being a competitor.’ That’s what she said,” Gaines informed.
The swimmer would later try to have another word with her but was unsuccessful. She called out Porter for her coward behaviour and for not backing up her words while leaving the scene so abruptly.
