Manchester City picked up their first win of the UEFA Champions League season after a stunning performance from their beloved No. 47 helped them to a 4-0 win on the night. Slovan Bratislava were on the receiving end of things and Phil Foden ran the show against the Slovakian side at Tehelne Pole. A goal and an assist meant that Foden also silenced every bit of criticism aimed his way for not being handed a start at the club.

Foden was in his element from the start, as the 24-year-old picked up his first goal just 15 minutes into the game. The forward comfortably curled the ball into the bottom right corner after Jeremy Doku found him in space inside the penalty area. Filled with the confidence of scoring his first goal of the season, Foden then went on to assist 21-year-old James McAtee for the first goal of his senior Man City career.

Fans sang praise for Foden at full-time as he bounced back to form after a rather disappointing start to the season. After the impressive display, it is likely that Pep Guardiola will hand the player more starts in upcoming games against Fulham and Wolves in the Premier League.

After being named the PFA Players’ Player of the Season for 2023/24, it is only a matter of time before he lives up to expectations at City.

Man City put four past helpless Slovan Bratislava side

Pep Guardiola and his men were ruthless toward their opponents as they made the trip to Bratislava, Slovakia on Tuesday night. City wasted no time to get to work, as the reigning Premier League champions opened the scoring through Ilkay Gundogan in the 8th minute. A deflected volley meant that the German scored his first goal after returning from FC Barcelona at the start of the season.

The game against Newcastle was one of the worst I’ve seen of him in the last 8 or 9 years. Then he played a fantastic game in the UCL.

Several chances went narrowly wide and hit the woodwork before Phil Foden made it 2-0. The second half was marked by an Erling Haaland goal, courtesy of a beautiful through ball by Rico Lewis.

James McAtee then made it 4-0 from close range as City kept a second clean sheet in the UCL. With four points from their first two games, Manchester City are fourth in the table. With the win, the club has now equalled the all-time record for the longest unbeaten run in the Champions League (25 games). Avoiding defeat against Sparta Praha at home later this month would mean that City will steal the record from eternal rivals Manchester United, a record they claimed under Sir Alex Ferguson.
