Roman Reigns will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against his former Shield brother Seth Rollins in four weeks’ time at SummerSlam. It was made official after Rollins passionately convinced ‘The OTC’ on this week’s Raw that they were running out of time to do their dance.

‘The Visionary’ said it was high time he collected the world title that belonged to him. Reigns scoffed at it, saying Rollins was the back of the line as he hadn’t done anything lately to earn a shot at ‘The Tribal Chief’. Rollins retorted by telling Reigns that he could play that game with anyone else but when it came to Roman, Rollins had always been at the front of the line.

Rollins asserted that Reigns owed him for everything he’s been able to accomplish. Moreover, Rollins owned him for everything Reigns has become. ‘The Architect’ reminded having Reigns’ number when it mattered the most. Take, for instance, Rollins pinning Reigns at WrestleMania 41 and taking away Paul Heyman or sacrificing himself so that Cody Rhodes could end his reign of terror at WrestleMania XL.

Speaking of that four-year period when Roman Reigns ruled upon WWE with an iron fist, he beat pretty much everyone there was except Rollins. The former Vision boss further reminded his erstwhile Shield brother that he couldn’t do anything about Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank contract by hijacking Reigns’ WrestleMania main event in 2015.

Rollins affirmed that he has owned Reigns since the day he put a steel chair across his back to end the Shield. Having said that, ‘The Visionary’ told ‘The OTC’ that he was there to offer him something no one else could. At first, the 6-time world champion acknowledged Reigns’ uber-impressive WWE accolades including record-setting main events at WrestleMania.

But Rollins reminded Reigns that he’s never been able to beat him. Although that claim is factually flawed with ‘The Tribal Chief’ having a pinfall victory over ‘The Drip God’ on an episode of Raw in 2017, Reigns has never been able to overcome Rollins in a high-stakes situation.

And that’s what Rollins was out for. He was willing to give Reigns an opportunity to check that box because if he couldn’t, he would still go down as one of the all-time greats whenever he hung up his wrestling boots.

However, the ghosts of Seth Rollins would haunt him forever. The former ‘Monday Night Messiah’ stated that both of them were much closer to the end of their careers than they were when they burst onto the scene. Rollins underscored that there’s a whole new generation of talent ready to take over the baton from the old timers. Hence, it was quite possibly Reigns’ last chance to close this loop with Rollins.

After letting the ‘Visionary’ talk that long, the Bloodline leader said it had been a long time since that much truth came out of his little brother’s mouth. The reigning world heavyweight champ admitted that Rollins was right and that he needed to beat him. Therefore, Reigns accepted Rollins’ challenge for SummerSlam before raising the title belt up high to have a stare down.

How has Roman Reigns fared since WrestleMania 42?

Roman Reigns won the world title from CM Punk in one of the greatest WrestleMania main events back in April. After that, he went on a mission to make Jacob Fatu fall in line with the rest of his Bloodline. ‘The Head of the Table’ was pushed to the limits by the ‘Samoan Werewolf’, who came agonizingly close to taking the championship belt off Reigns on a couple of occasions.

However, at the end of the day, Reigns’ veteran instincts delivered the goods for him and his title retention in that tribal combat at Clash in Italy entitled him to receive a formal acknowledgement from Fatu. Since then, the ‘Samoan Werewolf’ has been taking orders from his ‘Tribal Chief’. A couple of weeks before Night of Champions, Reigns whispered in Fatu’s ear to destroy Seth Rollins.

‘The Architect’ has officially trespassed the ‘Tribal Chief’ territory with his latest challenge to Reigns on Raw. At one point, it was believed that the 2026 King of the Ring, Oba Femi, would challenge Roman Reigns for the world title at SummerSlam. However, Femi has to put an end to the Brock Lesnar problem first, which he’ll look to do within the confines of a Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam.
