SmackDown this week witnessed the funeral of The Gingerbread Man. The entire vibe of the show was centered around it only, much to the disdain of Sami Zayn, who felt the said gimmick was a knock on him. After having put up with everyone backstage mourning the Gingerbread Man as if it were an irreplaceable human being, Zayn snapped during the closing moments of SmackDown.

Trick Williams was in the ring delivering a eulogy in remembrance of the Gingerbread Man. It was followed by a video package in his memory, which was the last straw for Zayn to come out and vent his spleen. The former ‘Honorary Uce’ asked if Williams was doing that on purpose because it was ridiculous.

He told the US Champion that TV time on SmackDown used to mean something. The erstwhile El Generico affirmed that there was a prestige tied to closing an episode of SmackDown back in the day. Zayn then ranted about ‘Mr. Whoop That’ spending all his money only to make a joke out of Zayn.

The latter said he’d never do that out of respect for his ride-or-die fans who pay their hard-earned money to attend shows every single week. Although Zayn admitted that Williams did manage to get under his skin and make him angry, he would never be able to put an end to Sami Zayn, as guys stronger and faster than ‘Trick Willy’ have all tried and failed.

Meanwhile, Zayn was still there, and he wouldn’t be going anywhere. ‘The Great Liberator’ ultimately hauled Trick Williams with a right hook and rained several rights on ‘Mr. Whoop That’. The ex-Bloodline member picked up the US title belt and kept talking trash with the 31-year-old before holding it up high. In the background, the Gingerbread Man sat up from the casket and took his head off to reveal himself as Lil Yachty.

He cracked Zayn with the candy cane kendo stick to avenge Zayn beating him up with it a couple of weeks ago. Williams had gotten up by then, and he laid Zayn out with a trick shot to stand tall. Tonight at Backlash, Williams will defend his United States title against Zayn, who had dropped it to ‘Hollywood Trick’ at WrestleMania last month.

Jacob Fatu warned The Usos on SmackDown before his Roman Reigns showdown

Jacob Fatu kicked off this week’s SmackDown just 24 hours before stepping into the biggest match of his career against Roman Reigns at Backlash. Shortly after declaring that he’s not just wrestling Reigns for the title but taking it, ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ got interrupted by The Usos.

Jimmy Uso told Fatu that a part of him was proud of ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ going toe-to-toe with ‘The Tribal Chief’ but he was also concerned about what would happen to Fatu should he lose. Jey Uso chimed in and stressed that Fatu still hasn’t given a thought to it.

‘The Yeet Master’ broke it to the ‘Samoan Werewolf’ that Reigns will not only beat him up physically but also drain him emotionally, and Jey could tell, as he has lived it several years ago. Jey mentioned that ‘The OTC’ will do all that right in front of Fatu’s family that’ll be at ringside for Backlash.

‘Big Jim’ concurred with his twin brother and affirmed that Fatu and his entire family will have to acknowledge Reigns as their tribal chief in that case. Having heard the Usos ramble on enough, the former NWA Champion first reminded Jey that he could never beat Reigns.

And in response to ‘Big Jim’ asking Fatu to think about the repercussions of his loss, the challenger claimed he was fighting this battle for his family and he was willing to die for them if it called so. Fatu wondered if Reigns was willing to go to extreme lengths for his family. He then did his signature “All Gas No Brakes” catchphrase with the crowd firmly behind him.

But before leaving, Fatu warned Jimmy and Jey of not interfering in his match at Backlash. Because if they did, Fatu would burn this entire family tree down. That was quite an opening to SmackDown. Jacob Fatu would later run into Royce Keys backstage. The erstwhile Powerhouse Hobbs backed the Samoan Werewolf to show the entire world that there was no one like him.
