The most exciting football game of this past weekend did not come from the NFL. Instead, it was the Alabama vs. Georgia showdown in NCAA college football that caught the attention of fans. Not just because of how the shootout ended, but also because of a certain 17-year-old Ryan Williams. His performances were electrifying enough that they caught the attention of tennis legend Serena Williams.
The 23 Grand Slam winner’s attention was drawn to the highlight of a 75-yard touchdown play the Crimson Tide freshman racked up in the fourth quarter. She decided to repost the clip on X and wrote a praising caption.
This was Serena Williams joking that the Alabama star was her cousin. It was her way of giving him props for what would end up being the game-clinching score.
Honestly this is pretty impressive from my 17year old cousin ha go Cuz! https://t.co/zLSQQKn2oq

With the Crimson Tide down by 1 and more than two minutes to go, they needed to score. QB Jalen Milroe spotted a chance with Georgia fielding a single high safety. But what he did not expect was that his freshman teammate was going to use his upper body agility to track the ball all the time it was in the air.
That helped him adjust at the last second to grab it with both his hands. Then onwards, it was his combination of agility, elusiveness, and breakaway speed that did the rest. That 75-yard touchdown gave Alabama the lead and put the pressure on Georgia. No wonder Serena Williams was impressed.
Serena Williams is an avid football fan
This namesake post was not the only instance the tennis legend has shown her interest in the game. She and her sister Venus Williams are minority stakeholders in the Miami Dolphins. It would be life coming full circle if her surname namesake was to join her team at some point in the future.
Other than that, it seems she keeps tabs on the footballing world quite regularly. That led her to take a shot at Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker at the ESPYS. She most likely took note of how his controversial speech started debates throughout the country.
An avid advocate of women’s sports, she has been a vocal advocate for those who change the landscape of any sport. She probably feels the same about her 17-year-old ‘cousin’. Ryan Williams has so far proved he is the most exciting player in college football right now.
