“He reminds you a lot of Aaron Rodgers!” Shannon Sharpe asserts Jordan Love is more likely to win MVP than Jalen Hurts

There appears to be a heated debate between sports analysts Shannon Sharpe and Stephen A. Smith over the favorites for the MVP honor in the coming season. As the latter firmly advocated for the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts as a bigger candidate, the former seemingly sided with the Green Bay Packers’ Jordan Love. 

During the recent edition of ESPN’s First Take, Sharpe asserted that Love, who’s coming off an impressive debut season as a starter and landing the highest-paid contract extension, is more likely to earn the NFL MVP honor in 2024 instead of Hurts, who is aiming for a rejuvenating season following the bizarre end to Philly’s 2023 campaign. 

I’m going to say Jordan Love. His first full year of starting: 32 touchdowns, 11 interceptions [and] over 4100 yards. He’s the real deal and if you watch him and watch some of his mannerisms and the way he can throw a football from the pocket. The way he can throw the football on the move the way he can… He reminds me a lot of Aaron Rodgers.

Shannon Sharpe said

Sharpe believes that learning under Rodgers for three seasons before getting on the field as the starter has helped the young quarterback tremendously. He went on to clarify that he doesn’t foresee Love achieving the same legendary status as Rodgers, he was definitely sure that Love is better and more polished than he initially expected out of him.

Why did Shannon Sharpe favor Jordan Love over Jalen Hurts for MVP?

While highlighting Love’s remarkable performance last season by leading the Packers to a playoff victory in his rookie year, sports analyst Sharpe also illustrated the reason why he picked the Packers’ signal-caller over the Pro Bowler quarterback. In doing so, he also emphasized the importance for Philly to have a good season in 2024. 

Jalen Hurts is going to have to prove. Last year he had a down year, he’s got to prove that the year before that he almost won the MVP was not an anomaly. This season, this past season was an anomaly and that’s more of a norm, that’s more of a trend. He’s got to get that taste out of his mouth.

While Love is said to possess the potential to make a significant impact in Philly, Hurts is expected to have a rejuvenating season and make a solid comeback. Sharpe’s bold words for Love put him in the spotlight and also set the stage for an exciting competition between the NFC conference rivals’ quarterbacks.
